Today we will embark on an excursion to the Las Terrazas community, very close to the capital. This place is one of the main nature tourism destinations in Cuba. It is located in a mountainous environment of exuberant beauty, converted into a protected area with excellent environmental practices, declared a Biosphere Reserve. This forested area has been carefully studied and presents great diversity in flora and fauna. In addition, there are small lakes, rivers, waterfalls and natural trails that are maintained in perfect harmony with the local population through ecological projects. You will spend time relaxing in the middle of this green environment and on the way back to Havana you will visit a private farm, where you can see various crops such as sugar cane. There its owners, a Peruvian and a Nicaraguan who lived for some years in France, with their experience and their love for nature, during an exquisite lunch, will tell interesting anecdotes about agriculture and how they currently manage their lands. We head to the Cuban countryside; it will give us another perspective on Cuba and away from the hustle and bustle of the city we will find the other side of a country and its people. We will leave towards Matanzas province; there we will visit an old Sugar Mill2. The magic of this place introduces us to a fascinating world where the old machinery extracted the valuable elixir from sugar cane of freshly cut sugar to transform it into sugar. In Cuba there were around 160 sugar mills at the time of the splendor and sugar boom in the 1950s. Today only about 50 remain active. Lunch will have place in an idyllic Agroecological Farm. Going out onto the national highway, you can see the cane fields of the western region and then we will arrive at the beautiful city Cienfuegos. In this port city, founded by a group of French and Spanish settlers at the beginning of the 19th century, you can see one of the most important bays in the country, and beautiful neoclassical architecture. You will visit the Palacio de Valle, an emblematic palace located at Punta Gorda neighborhood that recalls Spanish-Moorish architecture with Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque and Mudejar influences; Next, we leave for the town of Santísima Trinidad, the third town founded by the Spanish Crown in Cuba at the beginning of 1514, and which is today one of the best-preserved colonial cities not only in Cuba, but also in America. Free night. (GIVES)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa Boutique Mansión Alameda, Deluxe Room or similar, Trinidad.
2 The former sugar factory, which now functions as a museum, may be closed at certain times of the year without prior notice. In this case, an alternative visit to another tourist attraction is offered.
Just 12 km from Trinidad is the famous Valle de los Ingenios, one of the largest sugar regions in Cuba during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, due to its favorable natural conditions and fertile lands. Several archaeological sites and farms from the period are still preserved. The old Manaca-Iznaga hacienda, today a museum, with its large Mirador Tower is located here; watchtower, which served as a surveillance post over the masses of slaves in the cane fields; among other interesting old sugar mills, where the sugar production techniques of those years can be observed. During a horseback ride3 through the landscapes of the Valley, you will reach a waterfall and a typical ranch to enjoy a picnic lunch. After returning to the city of Trinidad, with its narrow cobblestone streets full of stories, we will begin a city tour on foot to discover its secrets. In the evening after a spectacular dinner at the Alameda Mansion, you can explore Trinidad's nightlife with a visit to the Casa de La Trova or La Música.
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa Boutique Mansión Alameda, Deluxe Room or similar, Trinidad.
3 For the client who does not wish to ride a horse, they are transported to the waterfall in a volanta (cart carried by a horse driven by a farmer).
Today will be a day of relaxation where you can enjoy the warm turquoise blue waters of the beautiful Playa Ancón, one of the best beaches on the southern Caribbean coast of the Island. Among palm trees and picturesque beach bars, with a tasty piña colada in hand, you will have the pleasure of feeling in a tropical paradise. You will be having lunch while enjoying the sea on a pleasant terrace and in the afternoon, return to the city to see its artist galleries and local markets that offer all kinds of crafts and souvenirs. Evening free. (D/L)

Hiking Tour - Pueblos Mancomunados - Sierra Norte Oaxaca
The local ambience of Los Pueblos Mancomunados is fittingly described by the inhabitants’ self given title “the people of the clouds”. Located in the Sierra Norte, at an altitude of 3000 meters (9,870 feet) above the dry and hot central valleys, you will find a range of unique and diverse ecosystems: seven of the nine types of vegetation existing in Mexico are found here.
This region boasts a diversity of fauna, with over four hundred bird and three hundred and fifty butterfly species. The area is home to the six forest cat species found in Mexico, including the jaguar, as well as endangered animals such as the spider monkey and the tapir. The Sierra is also the site of mixed pine-oak forests, classified by the World Wildlife Fund as being the richest and most varied on earth and one of the world’s oldest ecosystems, estimated to be over twenty million years old.
The Zapotec people of the Sierra Norte live from their forests and mineral resources. In 1998 an ecotourism project was founded to protect and preserve this nature system in a sustainable way (Expediciones Sierra Norte A.C.). A small tourism infrastructure has been established and the tours offered in the area are organized by the villagers themselves; guides from the villages accompany us during our walks and explain the different kinds of animals and plants and their uses.
Our trips are confined to 4 to 5 hours hiking each day so that we still have time to participate in the life of the villages. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available at the local ‘Comedores’ (village restaurants). Your luggage will be transported in our van from village to village. The villages are connected by radio and our local guides are in constant communication with them.
4 days/3 nights
Sierra Norte, Oaxaca, Pueblos Mancomunados, Veracruz, Cuajimoloyas
English
Driving time from Oaxaca to Llano Grande is about 2 hours. We start our trekking in Llano Grande. The village is situated on 3000m (10,000ft) about 1.40h driving time from Oaxaca city. Llano Grande counting about 100 inhabitants is the smallest of the 8 Pueblos Mancomunados. The hike is about 4-5 hours and leads us through the cloud forest to "piedra larga", the highest viewpoint of this area and further to an old Zapotec offering place, which is still in use. We will hike through pine forest but depending on the season vegetation varies a lot, most of the year we have many wild flowers. The loop brings us back to the village where Kata will serve us a typical lunch. We stay overnight in the cabins of the village.
This hike leads us from Llano Grande to the neighbor village of Cuajimoloyas. We start going down to a lake in the middle of an alpine meadow, which is used to water the cows, donkeys and (wild) horses. We hike through a canyon called "Cueva de la Iglesia" (hiking time about 4-5 hours). During the Mexican revolution this canyon was used by "Bandidos" to hide stolen goods and people still tell a lot of stories about these times... We will have lunch in the village of Cuajimoloyas. In case you are interested we can visit a local healer for a ritual cleansing. Overnight stay in the cabins of Cuajimoloyas.
We will start hiking from Cuajimoloyas, which is the biggest community of the Pueblos Manco-munados, counting about 1200 inhabitants. From there we will hike steeply down to a little trout-farm in Latuvi on 2200m where we will have lunch. The vegetation changes from high pine forest to oak forest with a greater biodiversity. Hiking time is around 5 hours.
We hike on an old pre-Hispanic trading path (hiking time around 4-5 hours). The Camino Real used to reach from Veracruz at the Gulf Coast to the central valley of Oaxaca. Parts of this path still exist like our hike from Latuvi to Amatlan. Most of the vegetation is a very old oak forest but on the way, you will see spectacular phenomenon. On this hike, for example, you will find the Spanish moss that changes the woods into kind of a fairy tale forest. After the hike we have lunch in Amatlan one of the two pre hispanic villages of the Pueblos Mancomunados.

On the approximately two-hour drive to the Salt Lake, you will stop at a viewpoint where you can take pictures of the beautiful landscape. You will also pass numerous typical Dominican villages as well as a statue of the Taino chief Enriquillo, after whom the lake is named. Lake Enriquillo is one of the most charming areas in the country and is almost 40 meters below sea level. The area is hot and dry, although springs and small rivers make it very fertile in some places. The next trip in a typical boat on the lake will take you first to a section of the shore from where you have a good chance to see the crocodiles living in the lake. On the way back, you will visit the village of Neyba, known for its grapes, and Las Marias, a place where the locals spend their free time. If you would like to have lunch in a typical Dominican restaurant, please inform your tour guide. The cost of the lunch is to be paid by the clients. Various fruit trees line the path, providing frequent opportunities to sample exotic seasonal fruits, including freshly picked cacao beans, which have a unique sweet and sour taste.
Once at the top, you will visit a local family who lives far from civilization and is dedicated to farming. Here you can rest and have a simple typical lunch cooked over an open fire. During the visit you will get an idea of what it means to live in the simplest conditions. At the same time, you will be making a small contribution to the family's livelihood, as 20 percent of the trip fee will go to them in the form of a donation in kind or food.
After the rest, you will continue the hike and return to your starting point.
We recommend bringing a small backpack for water and snacks for the hike.
You must be in good physical condition to be able to tackle the mountain on your own.

Minas de Larimar & Cueva de la Virgen
The pride of the Dominican jewelry industry is the larimar, which changes between white, light blue, green-blue and deep blue, which you will get to know today.
An off-road vehicle will pick you up at your hotel at 8:00 am. Along a scenic coastal road you will drive to Bahoruco. From here, you will head high into the mountains to the only Larimar mine in the world. The gemstone was discovered in 1974. It is scratch resistant, can be polished and is used for various jewelry pieces. Your driver will drop you off just below the mine; you will need non-slip shoes for the climb. Once at the mine, you will be given a guided tour of the mining village. Entry into the tunnels is not recommended and visit at your own risk.
Back in the village of Bahoruco, you will visit a typical larimar workshop where locals work the stone. You are welcome to bring your own stone, which you can buy in the mines from one of the flying merchants, but please ask your guide before making such a purchase (purchase is not compulsory, cost to be paid by participants).
Afterwards, you will continue to La Ciénaga, from where you will take a hike of about 45 minutes to the Cueva de la Virgen, the Cave of the Virgin. The way there leads through a rainforest with an impressive biodiversity and full of beautiful native flowers, including several species of ferns and fruit trees. During the hike you can listen to the songs of native birds, including the endemic palm warbler, hummingbirds and more than 40 other species. Completely hidden in the lush forests of the Sierra de Bahoruco, the walk along and through a river is as exciting as the swim in the cave's emerald pools fed by a plummeting waterfall. Remember to wear shoes that can get wet for the hike.
Afterwards, visit Villa Miriam The estate of a Barahona-based businessman, whose garden has been opened to the public, is located right on the San Rafael River with natural pools and waterfalls. The refreshing watercourses invite you to swim. If you wish, you can also have something to eat here (cost to be paid by the participants).

Here begins the excursion along the Bahoruco River, which according to the locals is the most crystal clear river in the country. The hike goes upstream and passes through a lush jungle landscape. The trail is challenging and very rocky, so it is important to put on shoes with a sturdy sole that can get wet. This is because in numerous places you will cross the river, sometimes moving through knee-deep water. After about an hour and a half you will reach your destination and the highlight of the hike. The bathing place La Plaza fascinates by its unique situation in the midst of untouched nature - here you have the feeling to be far away from civilization in a forgotten paradise. The play of colors of the crystal clear refreshing water varies between turquoise, light blue and opal shades. Dare to jump into the cool water and refresh yourself from the hike. Adventurous travelers jump into the natural pool from one of the adjacent cliffs. Afterwards, head back to your starting point.
The subsequent refreshment, you have earned after the hike honestly. Local specialties fresh from the sea await you in a typical regional restaurant - a feast for all lovers of fish and seafood. You will enjoy a spectacular view of the sea and the coast. Of course, vegetarian or dishes without fish are also offered.

Bahía de las Águilas stretches for more than 8 km and offers an extraordinary coastal landscape with crystal clear waters, whose color ranges from turquoise to opal blue and that merge with the sky on the horizon. Enjoy your stay in the sea, take your time to swim and get in touch with nature. On the way back, you can have lunch in a local restaurant known for its typical dishes. The cost of the lunch is to be paid by the clients.
Afterwards, you will continue to Oviedo, a small village where time seems to stand still because everything is very peaceful here. Here you will visit the Oviedo Lagoon, a natural salt water reserve separated from the sea by a narrow strip of land. After receiving your wristbands to enter the national park, you will board another typical boat. On the lagoon you will be able to observe a number of large birds such as herons, spoonbills and ducks. The Oviedo Lagoon consists of a total of 24 islands of different sizes. While visiting one of these islands, you will have the opportunity to observe iguanas in their natural habitat. Pueblo Magico Cholula
Cholula was second only to the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan (modern Mexico City), possibly with a population of up to 100,000. The great city stood at the foot of what appears to be an earthen hill that is, in fact, the largest pyramid ever built, covering over 46 acres and spanning an incredible 405 meters on each side! In addition to this great construction dedicated to Quetzalcoatl, the city had a reported 365 temples.
After taking the city during the Spanish Conquest, Hernan Cortes vowed that it would be rebuilt with a Christian church to replace each of the old pagan temples; less than 50 new churches were actually built, but the Spanish colonial churches are unusually numerous for a city of its size. Cholula is actually divided into eighteen neighborhoods or barrios, each with a patron saint.

Transfer to the sleepy town of Amecameca which is key point to the Iztaccihuatl-Popocatepetl Volcan National Park. While the craterless Izta is dormant, Popo is very much active. On steep slopes we reach the Cortez Pass on 3700 meter altitude where we visit the small museum. Afterwards we take a short hike to the base of Iztaccihuatl volcano. Downhill on dirt roads to Cholula. Cholula was second only to the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan (modern Mexico City), possibly with a population of up to 100,000. Overnight Boutique Hotel La Quinta Luna 5*
Today we explore The Great Pyramid of Cholula can be explored either via a labyrinth of interior tunnels, or above ground by walking through excavations at the pyramids base. Theres a fine on-site museum with models showing the sites full glory. Take time to climb atop the pyramid. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios was built on the pyramid. It is made of bradstone and decorated with lamini¬lla of 24k gold. The views from this hilltop site are spectacular! In the center of this grid is the main square, the Plaza de la Concordia or zocalo. On the west side of the Plaza is the City Hall, fronted by a line of businesses, which in turn are fronted by a 170 metres (560 ft) gallery, marked by 46 arches supported by Doric columns, called the portales. This archway is the longest of its kind in Latin America. Overnight Boutique Hotel La Quinta Luna 5*
Short drive to Tonanzintla. The interior of Templo de Santa Maria is among Mexicos most exuberant. Under the dome, the surface is plastered with colorful stucco saints, devils, flowers, fruit, birds and much more a great example of indigenous artisanship. Continue to Puebla. Pueblas historical center still looks like an old Spanish city with its more than 70 churches and 1000 colonial buildings. Beautiful the tiles on buildings facades. Visit the shady and spacious Zocalo, the monumental Cathedral and Rosary Chapel. Not to be missed the lively market Victoria and the pottery shops offering colourful hand-painted ceramic. The Capilla del Rosario (Rosary Chapel), on the south side of the church's main altar, is the most magnificent aspect of this church's interior. Santo Domingo church dates from the late 16th century, but the Rosary Chapel was added later; it was built between 1650 and 1690. Ornate sculptures, masterful paintings and extravagant gold leaf cover every inch of the walls and ceiling of the Rosary Chapel, creating a dazzling effect. The chapel is sometimes referred to as "the golden house" because of the lavish use of gold leaf. Windows around the upper level of the chapel allow sunlight to enter, bathing the space in exquisite natural light which seems to make the gold glow. This chapel is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of baroque art in Mexico. Return to Cholula.
Overnight Boutique Hotel La Quinta Luna
Return transfer to Mexico City. En route we visit Cacaxtla Archeological Site which is known due to the quality of its mural paintings, since it is part of an exceptional archeological ensemble to which Xochitecatl and San Miguel del Milagro are added. The palatial and ritual Cacaxtla Ensemble, which means Place where the rain dies on earth. This archeological complex offers extraordinarily well preserved murals which are guarded by gods of feline aspect, an eagle and a great realistic battle; also, a scorpion-man associated to the Venus cult and elements of rites to water and corn.
Built by four pyramids, the Xochitecatl Archeological site is formed by the flowers pyramid, serpent building, the spiral and the volcano basement. This is the first of them, the biggest one and where you can testify the cultural sequence of the city in a more complete manner; from the forming medium period to the colonial period. It also offers you the view of the greatest variety of materials, without forgetting the more than 30 child burials it shelters, along with wealthy offers and sculptures.

Cañón del Sumidero National Park is a national park in the state of Chiapas, Mexico. The area with an extension of 217.89 km² was declared a national park on December 8, 1980. Its main attraction is the Cañón del Sumidero, through which the Río Grijalva flows, with rock walls up to 1000 m high. Start of the boat trip through the Sumidero Gorge. The tour leads through the deeply cut gorge of the Rio Grijalva. With the steep walls that rise up to 1000 m, the gorge is reminiscent of Nordic fjords. High waterfalls amid lush ferns and mosses surprise the viewer. With a little luck, you might spot a crocodile sunbathing.
Transfer to colonial San Cristobal de las Casas in the highlands of Chiapas.
Na Bolom is a hotel/museum in San Cristóbal de las Casas. The name comes from the Tzotzil language and means house of the jaguar. Originally the building complex, which was built in 1898, was a Catholic seminary, later the house of the Danish archaeologist Frans Blom (1893–1963) and the Swiss anthropologist and photographer Gertrude Duby-Blom (1901–1993). They dedicated their lives to the Chiapas indigenous people and to researching their culture. Her house has served as a museum since her death.
Overnight at Hotel Posada Na Bolom, cat. Standard
City tour in San Juan Chamula. The inhabitants of Chamula belong to the Tzotzil people (indigenous people and descendants of the Maya). Almost all of them speak the indigenous Tzotzil language and very many do not speak Spanish. The Tzotzil of Chamula are known to strictly defend their traditional culture and religion against external influences. We visit the church, which is one of the few remaining examples of the traditional church interiors of the indigenous people and the traditional market in the main square. On to Zinacantán. 99 percent of the commune is inhabited by members of the Tzotzil people. The name Zinacantán comes from the Nahuatl and means "place of the bats". We visit the colorful San Lorenzo Church and a weaver family. The women of Zinacantán are widely known for their fine weaving with floral motifs. Here you can taste the Posh, a high-proof, alcoholic drink made from sugar cane. Posh is mainly consumed at religious festivals of the indigenous communities. Back to San Cristobal de las Casas and city tour. It is a pleasure to explore the cobbled streets and markets of San Cristóbal and enjoy the unique ambience and wonderfully clear highland light. We visit the cathedral on the north side of the square, which is candy colored. Construction began in 1528 but was not completed until 1815 due to several natural disasters. The Templo & Ex-Convento de Santo Domingo de Guzmán is an imposing 16th-century building and the most beautiful church in San Cristóbal, especially when its facade catches the late afternoon sun. This baroque facade with outstanding filigree stucco work was added in the 17th century and includes the double-headed Habsburg eagle, then the symbol of the Spanish monarchy. The Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya is located in the Ex-Convento de Santo Domingo on the upper floor. This superb museum displays over 500 examples of hand-woven textiles from all over Mexico and Central America.
Overnight at Hotel Posada Na Bolom, cat. Standard
On the Panamericana Highway we reach El Chiflon, one of the most impressive waterfalls in Chiapas, whose staggered fall reaches around 120 meters. The Rio San Vicente, one of the largest rivers in Chiapas, leads to a series of waterfalls called El Suspiro, Ala de Ángel, and Velo de Novia. The latter is the most impressive for its drop of 70 meters. They form natural ponds with intensely turquoise blue water, framed by exotic vegetation that forms a curtain of trees, and landscapes that are characterized by reeds and palm groves.
In the afternoon we visit three cenotes in the Montebellos National Park. After a 20-minute hike on a steep, rocky path, we arrive at the picturesque Cenote Bartolo. Bartolo, like so many of the lakes in this area, is surrounded by high walls that make it look like a crater. But of course this area is not volcanic. The rock here is limestone and the lakes are places where the limestone has been eroded to give access to the water below the surface. Bartolo's water shimmers in various shades of green and blue.
Transfer to village Tziscao where you will spend the night in a cozy cabaña right on Lake Tziscao.
Overnight at Cabañas Paraiso Tziscao, cat. Cabaña
Tziscao is right on the border with Guatemala and on a short walk we cross the "green" border to Guatemala for a snapshot.
The Montebello Lagoon National Park is a picturesque lake district in the very south of Chiapas. There are more than 50 small, mineral-rich lakes in the middle of fir and oak forests. The minerals in the lakes together with the reflecting sun give these bodies of water their unique nuances, which range from turquoise blue to emerald green, from purple to blue to dark green. During a hike you will discover several of these lagoons embedded in the coniferous forest. The highlight is crossing a lagoon in a raft.
Transfer to nature reserve Las Nubes.
Hiking tour to Las Nubes Waterfall, one of the most visited and photographed places in the state, a waterfall that changes all year round in shape, intensity, color and gives life to the jungle environment. The rocky wall of the waterfall is the natural bedroom of Golondrinas, which can be seen in the mornings and in the evenings, being a unique spectacle.
Ecolodge located on the banks of the Santo Domingo River that is part of the Mesoamerican biological corridor, within the Lacandona jungle area of Chiapas. Hotel was built in a jungle environment, in front of the Las Nubes Waterfall, on the limits of the Montes Azules Biosphere .
Overnight at Cabañas Ecoturistico Las Nubes, cat. Cabaña
After breakfast adventurous rafting tour. Mastering the currents of the Santo Domingo River and passing through small waterfalls in a 4 km journey with a difficulty level of 1 and 2, an adventure activity highly recommended for an unforgettable trip.
La Casa del Morpho (Butterfly House) is located in the humid tropical region southeast of the Lacandon Jungle, home to the largest variety of butterflies in the country. La Casa del Morpho is a sustainable project where the Ejidatarios receive income and jobs while maintaining their jungle. A group of 22 ejidatarios from Playón de la Gloria own a management unit for the conservation of butterflies. During a tour you will learn more about the life cycle and the metamorphosis of butterflies. You will visit the butterfly farm, where more than 20 living species are exhibited, and discover the natural habitat of butterflies.
Continue to Las Guacamayas Lodge.
In the evening we visit the Red Macaw nature reserve. For their reproduction and livelihood, we build artificial nests for you to see. During our walk we can also see toucans, parrots, spider monkeys, howler monkeys and hummingbirds, depending on the season. The scarlet macaw sighting is highly dependent on the time of year.
Overnight at Eco Lodge Las Guacamayas, cat. Riverview Cabaña
After breakfast we start an exciting boat trip to the entrance of the biosphere reserve on the other side of the Lacantun river. Once there, we start a tour in the middle of a jungle that is practically 100% covered by trees and leaves. If the weather conditions are favorable, it is possible to observe wild boars, tapirs, monkeys and deer as well as smaller animals, insects and lush plants as well as some streams. Later we reach a small lagoon in the reserve where we can see ducks and herons. In the afternoon we will continue our discovery of the Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve, again by boat: we will take a two-hour drive along the river to admire the landscape and fauna. It is common to see monkeys, moreleti crocodiles and iguanas, herons, kingfisher. With a bit of luck we can spot jaguars, tapirs and otters, among other animals.
Overnight at Eco Lodge Las Guacamayas, cat. Riverview Cabaña
Transfer to Frontera Corozal to embarque river boat to hidden Mayan site Yaxchilan.
Yaxchilán is a historic Mayan city on the Usumacinta River in today's Mexican state of Chiapas. The historical name of the city was probably Pa 'Chan. Yaxchilán is known for the large number of sculptures found there. Yaxchilan, a charming and little-visited Mayan site in the middle of the rainforest, is reachable doing a boat trip. The city of Yaxchilán is located in a river loop on the Rio Usumacinta near the border between Mexico and Guatemala, is thus bounded on three sides by a river. Yaxchilán was a significant city during the classical period and a dominant power in the Usumacinta region. The city ruled over other, smaller towns such as Bonampak and was allied for a long time with Piedras Negras. The well-preserved stelae and lintels, beguiling the exotic fauna and flora are fantastic.
Return by boat to Frontera Corozal and overnight in cozy bungalows right on mighty Usumacinta river.
Overnight at Cabañas Nueva Alianza, cat. Cabaña
Bonampak is an ancient Maya archaeological site in the Mexican state of Chiapas. The site is approximately 30 km south of the larger site of Yaxchilan, under which Bonampak was a dependency, and the border with Guatemala. While the site is not overly impressive in terms of spatial or architectural it is well known for the murals located within the three roomed Structure 1 (The Temple of the Murals). Sensational Mayan murals were discovered in three temple chambers, unique in the whole Maya world. Room 2 is the largest of the three, which alludes to its greater importance. It also contains more human figures than either Room 1 or Room 2, with 139 of them. Here is the scene of what has been referred to as the greatest battle scene in all of Maya art.
En route to Palenque, stop at lovely water cascades in Roberto Barrios which invites to a refreshing swim.
Overnight at Hotel Chan-Kah Resort 4 *, cat. Casita Junior Suite
Palenque was founded around 300 BC. And was in its full bloom in the 7th and 8th centuries AD. All the buildings that can still be seen today date from this period. Thus, Palenque was one of the first sites of the classical Mayan period, which was abandoned for reasons that are not yet clear. The "Temple of Inscriptions" impresses with more than 620 hieroglyphs and tells the story of the Mayan king Pacals from the time of his accession to the throne in 615 AD. For almost 70 years, Pacal, who was crowned at the age of 12, directed the fortunes of Palenque. The discovery of his tomb in a temple built in his honor was one of the great archaeological sensations in Mayan history.
Afterwards transfer to airport in Villahermosa. End of services.
