A Different Island
There is a Cuba that has not yet been discovered. It lies in small towns, well off the trodden path, where people are exceptionally hospitable and pure. This tour is about finding that hidden gem. Engage with people through unique, exciting activities. Explore Sagua la Grande, a forgotten city that used to be one of the wealthiest in the 19th century. Visit the port town of Isabela de Sagua to savour seafood delicacies at a restaurant built on stilts over the water. Hike the spectacular-yet-unsung Jumaguá mogotes and appreciate the quirky flora species. Kayak across the waters of the beautiful Bay of Cienfuegos. Relax on the white sand beach of Ancón after a tour through the colonial architecture of Trinidad. In Santa Clara, a city marked by “Che” Guevara’s deeds, learn about the history of the revolution. Jump into the deepest cenote in Cuba, situated in Playa Larga. Wrap up your adventure in Havana. Tour the city on an e-bike to admire its colourful, decaying buildings. Hop on a cocotaxi, then an American classic car, to take in iconic sites such as the Revolution Square and the Malecón. Your memories and pictures will be the envy of your friends.

Welcome at the airport. Transfer to your hotel in Matanzas City. Dinner at own expense.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Louvre Hotel (3*)
Matanzas is dubbed the Athens of Cuba for its profusion in literature and arts. Due to the many water channels, it is also referred to as the city of bridges. In the morning, walk through the historical centre. Visit an old French drugstore dating back to the 19th century, now a pharmaceutical museum with an impressive collection of utensils and formulations. Before leaving the city, admire the spectacular view of the Yumurí Valley and the bay of Matanzas from La Ermita de Monserrate. Visit La Finca, a charming natural spot where arts, pottery and organic farming thrive. The owners will guide you through the estate, explaining the concept of the project, and will offer a delicious lunch prepared with produce from the farm. Continue to Sagua la Grande. En route, appreciate the rural life while cruising through farming towns that have not been touched by tourism. Tour the city in the evening.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Sagua Hotel (3*) (B/L)
Sagua la Grande in largely unknown when it comes to tourism, and very few know of its glorious past. Home to businessmen, artists and casinos, the city was one of the most prosperous in the 19th century. Nowadays, it is the archetype of a Cuban countryside town. In the morning, explore the natural park Mogotes de Jumaguá 1 , an interesting formation highlighted by 8 mogotes, which play host to a significant number of endemic species, including the very rare Jumaguá palm tree. Visit a cave and
climb to the top of one of the mogotes to admire the spectacular landscape dominated by the palm trees. Enjoy a natural fruit juice prepared by local farmers. Continue to Isabela de Sagua by a road that runs alongside the second oldest railroad in Cuba. This fishermen town is known for its seafood, and that you are welcome to enjoy for lunch (not included) at a picturesque restaurant built on stilts. Look forward to freshly caught oysters or crabs, depending on the season, while enjoying the unmistakable sea air. In the afternoon, leave for Santa Clara to visit Vidal Park, the social and cultural heart of the city.
Recommendation: Check out with your guide the night program at El Mejunje, a cultural centre known for its ample selection of acts, which range from Cuban ballads, to rock to drag shows.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Hotel E Central (3*) or a casa particular (B)
Santa Clara exudes history. The last battle that effectively determined the triumph of the revolution was fought here on 1958 Christmas. Che, as was known the famous Argentinian guerrilla fighter Ernesto Guevara, was the mastermind of that victory. Visit the monument dedicated to the key action of that clash, the derailment of the armoured train, which feature the original wagons. Continue to the cigar factory to learn about the art of the hand rolling of the famous Cuban puros. En route to Cienfuegos, stop at the monument of Che Guevara. Arrive at the “pearl of the south”, a city founded by the French, with a marked classic style. Kayak across the large bay, once a hotbed of pirates, to enjoy a unique perspective of the city skyline. In the afternoon, visit the gorgeous Palacio de Valle, an eclectic, Moorish style palace. Built by Don Asisclo del Valle to live with his wife, you will enjoy here a delicious cocktail at sunset. Rest of the day at leisure.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Casa particular, e.g. Casa Maikel or similar, Cienfuegos (B)
The image of Trinidad resembles an engraving dating to the 19th century. Frozen in time, the third villa founded by Spaniards in Cuba, is a must when visiting the island. Neglected for decades, the city has been restored and brought to life by a thriving tourism industry. Your trip there takes you along the south coast, circumventing the Escambray mountain range. Stroll through the old squares, cobblestone streets and craft markets of the UNESCO World Heritage city. Taste the local cuisine at a paladar. Continue to the white sand beach of Ancón to swim and tan. Well into the afternoon, return to Cienfuegos. Dinner will be arranged at your accommodation.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Casa particular, e.g. Casa Maikel or similar, Cienfuegos (B/L/D)
Leave for the nation’s capital city. En route, cruise through Bay of Pigs, the battleground where the nascent Cuban Revolution defeated the infamous invasion planned by the CIA and executed by Cuban exiles in 1961. Visit the Playa Girón Museum to revive those dark moments through the exhibition of objects, weapons and even a plane that took part in the battle. Nearing Playa Larga, stop at La Cueva de los Peces, the most famous cenote in Cuba. Enjoy some time for swimming and snorkelling , as well as a typical lunch. You are welcome to feed the fish with breadcrumbs to enjoy a colourful spectacle. Continue to Havana. Night
at leisure.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Casa Particular, ej. Juan de la Habana o similar, La Habana (B/L)
Your day begins by hopping on a cocotaxi (coconut shaped mode of transportation) for a transfer to Caribbean Tour offices to pick up the e-bikes. Look forward to a tour of Havana like no other. Pedal along the Malecón, Havana’s maritime balcony. Arrive at Old Havana to walk your e-bike through the gorgeous plazas. Admire the colonial architecture that tells the story of the 500-year-old historical city. Continue your ride in direction of Centro Habana for a lunch at the famous paladar “La Guarida”, a place that served as shooting set for the Oscar-nominated Cuban film “Fresa y Chocolate”. In the afternoon, visit a favourite of the mob in the 1940s: Hotel Nacional. Discover the myths behind the mafia in Havana, the underground trenches build during the Missile Crisis, and the halls that hosted the greatest celebrities of the 1950s. After a refreshing mojito, go back to the starting point of the tour to drop off the bicycles. From there, an American classic car will take you through the beautiful mansions of the neighbourhoods of Vedado and Miramar, all the way to your accommodation.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Casa Particular, ej. Juan de la Habana o similar, La Habana (B/L)
About our e-bikes
We are very proud of our excellent e-bikes! There are no e-bike stores in Cuba, so acquiring and keeping them in good working order is a challenge for bikers. All our e-bikes are imported from Germany and are ideally appointed for the hilly and bumpy streets of Havana.
Morning at leisure. You might want to further explore Old Havana on your own and purchase souvenirs. At noon, transfer to Varadero airport to catch your flight home or continue to your accommodation in Varadero for a beach extension. (B)

Welcome at the Havana1 airport. Transfer to your accommodation. Dinner at own.
Accommodation: Casa particular, e.g. San Lázaro 115 or similar, Havana
Commuting in Havana is a challenge for Cubans due to the poor public transportation. Have fun exploring Havana on all kind of wheeled vehicles. Kick off your day hoping on a bicitaxi to contemplate the city waking up. This tricycle is used by many Cubans to make groceries and move around the neighborhoods. Once in Old Havana, discover the colonial past of the city in a walking tour of its four main squares. Give the midday heat a miss with a lunch and a refreshing Mojito at a local restaurant. Take a horse-drawn carriage for a tour around the bay up to the heart of mid-century Havana: The Central Park. Admire the Cuban architecture in all her splendor with renowned buildings like the Havana Capitol, the Great Theater Alicia Alonso and the Inglaterra Hotel. To make the picture perfect, tens of classic cars of the 50s taxiing around set up the scene. Get comfortable on the back seat of one of those, called by locales almendrones, for a panoramic tour of the entire city. Visit the Revolution Square, the Metropolitan Park, the neighborhood of Miramar with its 5th Avenue and the Malecón, ending at your homestay.
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. San Lázaro 115 or similar, Havana (B/L)
The people you are going to meet today have something in common: their passion for arts. The morning starts with a visit to Jose Fuster project, the "Gaudi of the Caribbean". During the last 18 years he has made an important contribution to the community by building, restoring and decorating the houses of Jaimanita’s village, the place where he lives in the outskirts of the city. Continue to visit a rehearsal of the company Havana Queens, a project born of the association of the Cuban choreographer Rosario Blanco and the Swiss producer Patrick Hofer. You will learn about the various Cuban rhythms and will have the opportunity to meet and greet the dancers. Head for a tour of the neighborhood of San Isidro, in Old Havana. Full of controversies and home to renowned dissident artists, the place is filled with contestatory paintings crafted by graffiti artists on the walls of crumbling buildings. You will notice a flourishing movement of young artists and entrepreneurs galvanizing the dynamics of the community with art galleries and local business. Arrive at San José Warehouse, the largest craft market in Cuba, where you will be able to purchase a souvenir. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. In the evening, dinner at Casa Miglis restaurant with an entertainment show courtesy of Havana Queens to see in action the dancers you met earlier today.

Stop in Soroa to admire the orchid garden with a collection of more than 350 species. Leave for a visit to Patio de Pelegrín, a community project created by the artist Mario Pelegrín. This initiative channels the energy of the youth into arts and introduces them to a variety of art forms. Alongside Pelegrín and his team, prepare a traditional dessert. Your trip continues. Visit the house of a veguero, where you will be briefed on the world of tobacco. Check in at a Cuban family home in the town of Viñales.
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Villa El Habano or similar, Viñales (B/L)
Nature does not cease to amaze. You will not need an alarm clock today, as one of the neighbor’s roosters will happily help with that. Head for the Zapata Swamps, the largest marshlands in the insular Caribbean. Lunch en route and stop at the Zunzún’s House, the private patio of Mr. Bernabé. In this birds’ paradise you will be able to appreciate freely flying hummingbirds, the tinniest bird in the world, as well as other species that use the area as a migration corridor. Not far from there, you will discover the Cueva de los Peces, known as the deepest and most beautiful cenote in Cuba. There is a lagoon that connects with an extensive system of underwater caverns going more than 30 kilometers, from Playa Larga to El Toro Cove. You will have the option to spend the rest of your day at the beach near your homestay. At night, enjoy a homemade dinner at your casa particular.
Accommodation with breakfast and dinner: Casa particular, e.g. Casa Enrique or similar, Playa Larga (B/L/D)
Early in the morning, hit the road bordering Bay of Pigs in direction to Playa Girón, battleground of the 1961 invasion of Cuban mercenaries supported by the US Navy and Air Force, which resulted in the first great defeat of the US military in America. At the Museum of Playa Girón you will learn details of the clash, including the weaponry utilized. Arrive in Cienfuegos, a city of distinctive wide avenues and neoclassic architecture, which was founded and designed to the smallest detail by French settlers. Visit the Tomás Terry Theater, built in 1890; the Martí Park and the boulevard. After lunch at a paladar (privately owned restaurant), continue alongside the south coast down to Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage for its well-preserved colonial architecture dating back to the golden years of the sugar industry in the 19th Century. Tour its cobblestone streets and plazas.
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Casa Osmary y Alberto or similar, Trinidad (B/L)
Cubans love nature and therefore many places on the island are protected by environmental laws. One of these places is todays destination: the "Sierra del Escambray" National Park. This beautiful environment gives a home to almost half of the endemic bird species in Cuba and furthermore nearby areas are famous for the high quality of the Arabica coffee that is grown here and known in the whole country for its excellent quality. The trip starts from Trinidad in the morning through a winding road to a Cuban farm. Today guests will come into contact with the countryside and its beauties. Beehives can be visited and some sweet honey enjoyed. A path leads to a waterfall of crystal clear waters which literally invites to take a dip and cool off in the middle of a beautiful landscape. Then a traditional lunch in the gardens of the hacienda will be served. While lying on one of the most comfortable hammocks and feeling the soft country breeze relaxation is granted an exquisite coffee can be enjoyed. In the afternoon return to Trinidad.
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Casa Osmary y Alberto or similar, Trinidad (B/L)
Leave behind Trinidad on a 16 km drive leading to the villa’s most iconic site: The Manaca Iznaga Tower. Outlasting the slavery times, this tower overlooks the Valle de los Ingenios, a sugar cane industry powerhouse in the colonial period. Continue to Santa Clara, the city that witnessed the most important victory of the iconic guerrilla fighter Ernesto “Che” Guevara, one that effectively determined the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. Visit the “Che” Guevera Memorial1 , the final resting place of the epoch-making revolutionary. Stop and enjoy a refreshing drink in a restaurant with beautiful decorative plants. En route to Havana, stop in Varadero to drop off clients opting for a beach extension. (B)

The owner, Héctor Luis, is an Hombre Habano (Habano Man), a title equivalent to the Oscars of tobacco. On the property you will be introduced to the entire process, from the growing of the leaves up to the rolling by hand. After lunch, you will have the option to light up an authentic habano and enjoy the spicy-sweet flavor. After the walk, enjoy a succulent lunch at an ecological restaurant that utilizes fresh ingredients and eco-friendly products. Learn about the bigger project of sustainable agriculture that the restaurant is a part of while admiring the view of the Silence Valley. As is customary in the Cuban countryside, take a short rest to help your digestion. Continue to the small botanical garden of Caridad for a visit and tour. Built and maintained by two sisters, this backyard is a private property that plays host to a wide variety of plants from different regions. Later, time at leisure.

Trinidad is the name of this charming city. Continue to Sancti Spíritus, an old town with the only bridge from the colonial times still functioning in Cuba: the bridge over the Yayabo River. Lunch next to the engineering antique. The tradition of horse -drawn carriages remains alive here, and you will not want to miss the opportunity to see the city on one of them. Leave for the Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Charity. Visit the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, final resting place of the most illustrious Cuban patriots, including national hero José Martí, former president Fidel Castro and Mariana Grajales, mother of the Maceo generals. Buried here are also eminent members of the Bacardí dynasty, the ousted Cuban rum powerhouse. Continue to the center of the city to appreciate the iconic Céspedes Park and the Enramada Street. In the afternoon, head southbound for San Pedro de la Roca Fort, an outstanding military engineering work in the Caribbean. Relish the spectacular view of the mountains and the sea. Rest of your day at leisure.

Today’s journey takes you through unique features of the Cuban geography. Past small towns, cultivated fields and all kinds of vendors along the roadside arrive in Guantánamo, home to the Tumba Francesa, a dance and music tradition brought to eastern Cuba by French settlers and their Haitian slaves, who fled the Haitian Revolution. It is here that the infamous US detention camp is. The Guantanamo Bay Naval Base occupies an usurped Cuban territory, which you will be able to see from afar, at the lookout point of La Gobernadora. As you proceed, observe the contrasts and changes in the scenery. Alongside a sea in deep shades of turquoise, you go from a dry, semi-desertic landscape with cactus as the main visible vegetation, to the moist, verdant rainforest in the mountains. Your destination is a tropical paradise that records the highest rainfall in Cuba. The last stretch of the road is La Farola viaduct, considered one of the seven wonders of Cuban engineering. The meandering path will introduce you to a breathtaking natural scenery…and some typical culinary delicacies, the Cucuruchos. Do not miss the opportunity to taste these coconut and fruit sweets, which are served in conic containers of palm tree tissue.
