Santo Domingo's Natural Treasures
In the middle of the big city of Santo Domingo and not far from the colonial zone is the recreational destination Los Tres Ojos (the three eyes), which houses a small natural park and several stalactite caves. Descend into the caves and enjoy views of the partially open stalactite caves and green coral bedrock. Walk through the lush green vegetation and marvel at the three eyes (caves). The fourth eye can only be reached by boat, which will take you across a small underground river to the cenote. There you will have a fantastic view of a hidden lake surrounded by green, wild vegetation.
Afterwards you will visit the botanical garden. Here, on 20 hectares, you can see, among other things, a large collection of palms and many endemic and exotic plants, including a large collection of orchids with many different species of the island. The Japanese Zen Garden is one of the absolute highlights of the Botanical Garden.

Santo Domingo off the beaten track
On this excursion you will get to know Santo Domingo from a different side. Off the beaten tourist track you will see the life of the less privileged population and make a small contribution to improving their circumstances.
After breakfast, you will be picked up by your driver at 09:00. Then you will drive to one of the most precarious neighborhoods in the Dominican Republic, Gualey. The neighborhood is located north of the old town on the west bank of the Ozama River. Here you will visit the non-profit Rincón de Luz Foundation. The foundation has been doing work in the areas of education, nutrition and health for socially disadvantaged children, youth and seniors for over 18 years. Children from preschool age to the beginning of middle school receive schooling and participate in lunch. At the foundation you will hand over a food donation (included in the price of the excursion, will be provided for you in advance). The founder and president Leyda Alvarez will give you a tour of the premises and present her work. You will also have the opportunity to interact with the school children.
Afterwards you will get a guided tour through Gualey. You will get an impression of the living conditions in one of the poorest neighborhoods of the Dominican Republic. You will visit the four Pozos, small lakes fed by natural springs, which are popular with the residents. One of the pozos has recently been used as a breeding pool for ornamental and food fish. Drinks are available during the walk from local corner stores called colmados.
After the end of the tour you will go to the cable car station of Gualey. You will board the cable car, from which you will enjoy a spectacular view. You will cross the Ozama River, passing through the Tres Brazos and Sabana Perdida stations to the Charles de Gaulle terminus in the north of Santo Domingo, and then return to your starting point. During the tour you will gain a new perspective on the city and get an impression of the different living conditions. From the gondola you will have numerous opportunities for spectacular photos.
Afterwards, your driver will take you back to the hotel.
A quarter of the excursion price will benefit the Foundation in the form of a food donation, which you will hand over on the day of the excursion.

Three Beaches
This excursion will allow you to discover the most beautiful beaches of the Samaná region in the north of the Dominican Republic. You will visit three pristine beaches where the crystal-clear sea shimmers in the most beautiful turquoise tones and which are among the most beautiful waters in the world. You will depart by bus from Las Terrenas, the transfer to Las Galeras will take about an hour before boarding our small typical speedboat.
First you will discover Playa Fronton beach, accessible only by sea. Snorkeling lovers will have the purest pleasure here. You can see fish and corals or just take a refreshing swim in the sea. Enjoy the beauty of nature and explore the beach with a fresh coconut in your hand. At noon, your meal will be served at Playa Playita, a pretty little beach whose transparent waters shimmer turquoise. Here, with your feet in the sand, you’ll enjoy a freshly caught lobster grilled over an open flame – a treat for the palate and feast for all the senses! You can then take a nap or go for a swim before visiting the last beach of the day, Playa Rincon, with its fine white sand. Around 4:00 p.m. you will take the boat back to Las Galeras and then the bus back to the hotel.
This day is suitable for those who love the beach and swimming, but also for those who seek relaxation, nature and beautiful landscapes.

El Limon Waterfall
Today you will visit the highest waterfall on the Samaná Peninsula. It is an impressive waterfall about 50 meters high. The waterfall consists of smaller waterfalls that fall down a green wall into a natural basin. It is a very nice and pleasant horseback ride with a docile horse led by a local guide, who will take you to the top of the Limon waterfall in half an hour. Along the way you will be able to see various plants and tropical fruits. Once you get to the top, it’s about a fifteen-minute walk until you get to the pool of the waterfall where you can take a refreshing dip. Take pictures, rest and return to the ranch where a rich typical Dominican buffet lunch will be waiting for you – just the right refreshment after this spectacular excursion!
If you don’t want to ride and prefer to walk, you can also do this excursion as a short hike. Remember to wear good walking shoes as the trail is difficult and muddy due to the footprints left by the horses. The walk takes about 50 minutes each way.

Colonial Legacy: The Slave Route
On this excursion you will get to know the background of the history of slavery in the Dominican Republic. Because people who were brought from Africa as slaves from 1503/1505 onwards, especially for work in the sugar factories on the island of Hispaniola, play an important role in the history of the country.
After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel and begin your tour in the Barrio Santa Barbara. This was the site of the slave market, the historic transshipment point for people from Africa brought to the island for slave labor. Today, the streetscape is dominated by murals that refer to the historical and cultural aspects of slavery such as religious syncretism. After a subsequent visit to the Rum Museum, where you will learn about the tools that slaves used to do their work in the sugar factories, the tour will take you to the historic pillory La Picota, where rebellious slaves were publicly flogged. After the historic city tour, you will leave Santo Domingo heading west. Along the way, you will pass historic sites such as La Puerta de Lemba, one of the city gates where the head of Sebastian Lemba, a rebellious slave leader now revered as a national hero, was once displayed after being beheaded by Spanish colonial rulers. After leaving Santo Domingo, you will visit the ruins of the Ingenio Boca de Nigua sugar factory. The well-preserved structures of the factory will give you an idea of the historical sugar and rum production solely by the power of slaves and oxen. You’ll also learn how the tools you learned about earlier at the Rum Museum were used. The site is also of particular historical interest, as it was here in 1521 that the first uprising of slaves in the New World took place. Afterwards, you will drive to the ruins of the first hydroelectric sugar factory, Ingenio Diego Caballero.
On the way back to stop at a restaurant best known for its specialty pastel en hoja, dough stuffed with meat and steamed in a banana leaf, but also offers other Dominican delicacies.
After lunch on the way back to Santo Domingo, stop at a third historic sugar factory, Ingenio de Engombe, notable for the well-preserved remains of the factory owner’s mansion. Afterwards return to your hotel.

Yucatan Highlights with Calakmul
On this varied round trip you will visit the main sights of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Right at the beginning one of the highlights with a visit to the Mayan cult site in Tulum, which is enthroned above the Caribbean Sea. You will also visit other Mayan archaeological sites such as Calakmul, Palenque, Uxmal and Chichen Itza and learn more about the Mayans.
Enjoy the exotic fauna and flora on a jungle walk, bathe in one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Mexico and watch pink flamingos in the Celestun Lagoon on a lively boat trip. You will also visit the architecturally outstanding colonial cities in Merida, Izamal and Valladolid and bathe in mysterious cenotes, where the ancient Mayas celebrated rituals.
8 days / 7 night from/to Cancun or Riviera Maya
Cancun, Tulum, Bacalar, Chicanna, Calakmul, Palenque, Roberto Barrios Waterfalls, Campeche, Uxmal, Celestun, Merida, Izamal, Chichen Itza, Valladolid - Cancun / Riviera Maya
English
In the morning you will visit the Mayan site of Tulum, built high above the Caribbean Sea. Unlike all other Maya sites, Tulum is located directly on the sea. The most famous buildings are the so-called castle, the "Temple of the Descending God", the "Temple of the Wind" and the fresco temple.
Then continue to the Lagoon of the Seven Colors in Bacalar, which received the title Pueblo Magico. The Fort of San Felipe de Bacalar is located in the center of Bacalar. The fortress was built in 1725 by Antonio de Figueroa y Silva, Governor of Yucatán, as a strong defense for the preservation of the state against the advance of the English colonial rulers. It was completed in 1733. Afterwards you can take a refreshing swim in the Cenote Azul.
Overnight at Hotel Carolina, Cat. Standard Garden View
Welcome to a 2.5 hour boat adventure in Laguna Bacalar. First stop at Cenote Cocalitos / Stromatolites, which is 90 meters deep. Stromatolites are ancestors of corals that go back to the origin of life on the planet. Your next stop is the famous Pirate Canal, where the shallow and warm water creates an unforgettable backdrop. Can you imagine the battles against pirates who tried to pillage the area nearly 400 years ago? Continue to the Black Cenote / Cenote of the Witch, a place full of fantasy and mystery. The depth exceeds 100 meters, so you can see a change in color in the water. At this point, you will see why it is known as the Lagoon of the 7 Colors.
Continue to the so-called Rio Bec region. The city of Chicanná was inhabited between 300 and 1100 years AD and is home to buildings of the Chenes style and the Rio Bec style. During the classical period, the city benefited from its location on the central trade route between the Gulf Coast and the Caribbean coast. The most famous building in Chicanná is on the east side of the courtyard. The central entrance to the courtyard is built as a snake mouth entrance, the carved stone masonry of which is of excellent quality. Drive to the Hotel Puerta Calakmul at the entrance of the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve.
During nightfall we visit the nearby bat cave in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve. It is a cave with a depth of 54 meters, in which, according to experts, about four million bats of nine species live. Thousands of these incredible mammals come out of the cave at sunset almost every day at sunset in search of food and offer one of the most impressive spectacles that nature can offer.
Overnight at Hotel Puerta Calakmul, Cat. Cabaña
After breakfast, drive deep into the rainforest to the mystical site of Calakmul. Calakmul was a powerful Mayan city during the Classical Period. Together with El Mirador and Tikal, Calakmul is one of the largest Mayan cities ever discovered. A visitor center marks the entrance to the Calakmul National Park. From there, a gravel road leads deep into a jungle area, where the once mighty Mayan city is waiting to be discovered. Calakmul extended over an area of about 30 square kilometers and had over 100 colossal buildings; a total of more than 5,000 buildings are known. The so-called "structures" or pyramids I and II are dominant here. The latter has a height of approx. 45 meters. Most of Calakmul, however, has not yet been excavated or further explored. One can only speculate about the number of inhabitants. For the city center, for example, a population of around 50,000 is assumed. The enormous dimensions of the main pyramid are impressive, from the top platform of which you have an unforgettable view over the seemingly endless jungle deep into Guatemala. In the afternoon drive to Palenque.
Overnight at Hotel Villas Mercedes, cat. Deluxe
Palenque was founded around 300 BC. And was in its full bloom in the 7th and 8th centuries AD. All the buildings that can still be seen today date from this period. Thus, Palenque was one of the first sites of the classical Maya period, which was abandoned for reasons that have not yet been clarified. The "Temple of Inscriptions" impresses with more than 620 hieroglyphs and tells the story of the Mayan king Pacals from the time of his accession to the throne in 615 AD. For almost 70 years, Pacal, who was crowned at the age of 12, directed the fortunes of Palenque. The discovery of his tomb in a temple built in his honor was one of the great archaeological sensations in Mayan history.
Afternoon swimming at the nearby Roberto Barrios waterfalls. Return to Palenque.
Overnight at Hotel Villas Mercedes, cat. Deluxe
Drive along the Gulf of Mexico past idyllic fishing villages such as Champoton. In the early afternoon we reach the port city of Campeche.
The Archaeological Museum in the Baluarte San Miguel is located a little outside the city of Campeche. This museum has 10 rooms, it consists of two unique collections of its kind in the entire Maya region, which also include the jadeite burial masks from the royal tombs of Calakmul and the collection of funerary figures from the island of Jaina.
In 1540, today's Campeche was founded by Spanish settlers. A flourishing port city on the Gulf of Mexico, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, quickly developed. Towards the end of the 17th century, the Spaniards built large fortifications to protect against pirate attacks; these "Baluartes" are still one of the city's most important sights today. The beautiful and lovingly restored colonial buildings of the city lie within this belt of fortresses. The La Concepcíon Cathedral and the "heart" of the city, the small Zocalo Parque Principal, are worth a visit.
Overnight at Hotel Plaza Campeche, Cat. Standard
Drive past citrus plantations to Uxmal. The Uxmal archaeological site is about 60 kilometers south of Merida and shows the history of the late classical Maya era. This large, Puuc-style ruin complex is one of the most interesting in the world. The name Uxmal stands for "the three times built". The significance of many of the buildings that were built between 600 and 950 AD has not yet been fully deciphered. The beautifully decorated facades, huge terraces and squares, columns and arches are impressive.
Celestún is a mangrove biosphere reserve, which is known for its high flora and fauna diversity. The Estuary is the only colony of Cuban flamingos in Mesoamerica, besides the occurrence in Río Lagartos. Boat trips are offered here to observe the main attraction, the numerous pink flamingos. In addition, numerous North American water birds overwinter in Celestún from December to March. In addition to fish, shrimps and mussels, the living creatures in Celestún include numerous species of birds such as brown pelicans, frigate birds, cormorants, herons, snow ibis and mangrove buzzards. The Celestún mangrove area was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2004.
Overnight at Hotel La Mision de Fray Diego, Cat. Standard
City tour of Merida. The most beautiful buildings include the huge cathedral, the bishopric, the Palacio Municipal and the Casa de Montejo, the home of the city founder with the portal decorated with figures. The influence of Spain and France can be felt all over the city. For example, the Champs-Elysees served as a model for the Boulevard Paseo de Montejo. Don't miss a visit to the colorful market. Continue to the yellow city of Izamal.
City tour in Izamal includes a visit to the dominant Franciscan convent, the spacious main square bordered by the convent and colonial buildings with arcades. Further to the ruins of Itzamatul, which with 21 m carried a quite high platform with a temple for the god Itzamná. The northern and eastern sides have been restored and show a five-tier structure. The highest pyramid platform of Izamal is called Kinich Kak Moo with sides of 200 m and a platform height of 36 m. The main access to the platform is from the south side, where a monumental megalithic staircase made of huge worked stone blocks is far in front. Finally, visit the cultural center for handicrafts with a permanent exhibition of objects created by great masters of Mexican folk art. In the evening you will arrive at Chichen Itza.
Overnight at Hotel Hacienda Chichen Itza Resort, Cat. Standard
In the archaeological zone of Chichen Itza, the Mayan culture, further developed by the influence of the Toltecs from central Mexico, is expressed in all its splendor. "El Castillo" is the most impressive building in this Mayan city with a height of 30 meters. The largest ball court in the Yucatán can also be found in Chichen Itza. The building "El Caracol" is reminiscent of a snail shell and was discovered and drawn in 1842 by the researcher Frederick Catherwood. The Mayans used the local observatory to observe Venus and its orbit, among other things.
Cenote Dzitnup was discovered by chance around 1950 and is about 10 kilometers outside of Valladolid. The underground water basin, which can be reached via steep steps, offers a wonderful refreshment opportunity by jumping into the cold water. There is an opening above the turquoise-blue water of the tiny lake, through which the penetrating daylight illuminates the pool, which is why the cenote is best visited at lunchtime. Many fish live in the crystal clear water and directly above there are numerous stalactites that have formed over time on the ceiling of the underground cave. Then transfer to your hotel in Cancun or on the Riviera Maya.

English
Pick up by guide at the hotel. Transfer to fascinating archaeological site Ek Balam where excavations and restorations continue. Most impressive is the Acropolis whose base is 160m long. Built atop is the massive main pyramid with amazing stucco skulls. Continue to Pueblo Magico Izamal, also known as the city of three cultures, where bishop Diego de Landa had built a convent over a Maya temple. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the historic center and climb the Firebird pyramid for a breathtaking roundview over colonial Izamal and its surroundings. Short Transfer to the Hacienda.
Overnight Izamal.
Transfer to the White City of Merida. City tour in Merida begins on the Zocalo (main plaza). Visit the oldest cathedral, Governors Palace with the stunning murals painted by local artist Pacheco, city founders former residence Francisco de Montejo as well as lively city market. Then cruising on Paseo de Montejo, Meridas Champs-Elysées, you can encounter many impressive neoclassical mansions, once homes of Sisal Barons. Your journey will continue to Celestun, a quiet fishing village at the Gulf of Mexico. Hundreds of pink flamingos are a fascinating sight during the boat tour in the lagoon. Many other water birds will join the fantastic spectacle: e.g. cormorants, pelicans, ducks and frigate-birds. Enjoy the beach while observing Pelicans diving into the shallow water of the Gulf of Mexico. Transfer to your Hacienda.
Overnight in Hacienda.
Guided visit of Hacienda Sotuta de Peón, built in the late 1800`s in Tecoh, Yucatán. Sotuta de Peón is the restoration project of a landmark located in the heart of the ancient henequén zone in the Yucatan state, and gives a true glimpse of what was once a fully operational Henequen Hacienda in the grand style and tradition of this period. When touring Sotuta de Peon, you will literally travel back in time, transported on wooden platforms called "Trucks" which are pulled by mules over Cauville rails, as were originally used by the workers. Here, you will witness the step-by-step process of the transformation of the Henequen (or Green Gold as it was known throughout the region), from plant to fiber and from fiber to finished product. And add to this the unique geological formations of our secret attractions, the Cenote or beautiful underground rivers of crystal clear water, highly sought after, alkaline waters. Take the time for a refreshing swim at the end of your tour, where you can safely swim in the cool waters of the Cenote. Your journey will continue to Uxmal (meaning three times built in Maya language) with its towering Pyramid of the Magician. The structure is over 35 meters high and was built according to the legend overnight by a dwarf. The Nunnery quadrangle, named thus by the first modern explorers, is unique in the Maya world, with its irregular, but still harmonious architecture. Frescos, statues of archpriests and snakes decorate these intriguing facades. Continue to discover a beautiful and unusual museum, the mysterious history of cocoa and its intimate relationship with the Mayan culture. Return to Hacienda.
Overnight in Hacienda.
Transfer to visit the biggest Maya site in Yucatan, Chichen Itza. Dominating the center of Chichén is the Temple of Kukulkan (the Maya name for Quetzalcoatl), often referred to as "El Castillo" (the castle). This step pyramid has a ground plan of square terraces with stairways up each of the four sides to the temple on top. Along the south wall of the Temple of Warriors are a series of what are today exposed columns, although when the city was inhabited these would have supported an extensive roof system. The columns are in three distinct sections. Learn more about the famous Kukulkan pyramid with the Equinox spectacle, Temple of Warriors, Holy Cenote and Observatory. Afternoon visit of a nearby cenote. Have a refreshing swim in crystal clear waters. Short transfer to the hotel.
Overnight Chichen Itza.
Transfer to Valladolid for a relaxed city walk in colonial center of the town. Continue to Coba, located around two lagoons. Once an important Mayan trading place, Coba was connected with a trail system (sacbes) to various other Mayan cities. The site contains several large temple pyramids, the tallest, in what is known as the Nohoch Mul group of structures, being some 42 metres in height. Coba is estimated to have had some 50,000 inhabitants (and possibly significantly more) at its peak of civilization, and the built up area extends over some 80 km2. Afterwards transfer to old Mayan port Tulum, one of the last cities inhabited and built by the Mayans. Tulum was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico. The Maya site may formerly have been known also by the name Zama, meaning City of Dawn because it faces the sunrise.
Transfer to Hotel at the Riviera Maya or Cancun.

An almendrón, the Cuban slang for the old American cars, evokes nostalgia for the past and is the source of inspiration for many famous photos on Instagram. Cuba is recognized worldwide for its rolling collection of vintage cars, a live, open-air museum that can be explored all year round. On this classic car tour, we celebrate the passion for these rolling gems in order to create unique memories for you to treasure.
Starting in beautiful Havana, you will enter the fascinating world of restoration by visiting workshops dedicated to restoring the splendor of these antiques. You will then take a panoramic trip through modern Havana in a refurbished collectible car and, in the afternoon, on foot, you will discover the old town with its alleys and traditional hustle and bustle. The tour then takes you from Havana to the Las Terrazas community, the most ecological in this country; continue along the Via Blanca to visit Matanzas, the Athens of Cuba, and make the triumphal entry into Santa Clara, just as Ernesto “Che” Guevara did in 1959 to unleash Castro´s revolution. You will start the ascent into the mountains of the Cordillera Central, also called the Dominican Alps, where many locals spend their summer vacations. The small town of Jarabacoa is located here at 600 meters above sea level and is surrounded by pine forests, rivers, mountains and valleys. Spring-like temperatures prevail here all year round. The climatic health resort is the center for hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Here you will have the unique opportunity to learn everything from the cocoa bean to chocolate processing at the cacao plantation "Hacienda La Esmeralda", which supplies world-renowned chocolate factories. Today's destination is the Peninsula Samana. The 63 km long and between 10 and 20 km wide peninsula is characterized by a paradisiacal tropical landscape with secluded beaches in hidden bays, clean mountain rivers and rugged rocky coasts. Unwind on the beautiful and unique sandy beaches of this peninsula. We recommend you to visit the beach Playa Rincón, located west of Las Galeras, by car. Afterwards you will take the car again and drive to the right side of the bay. At the very end you will find a typical restaurant, this is the best place in the bay for swimming - a beach as you usually only know it from a postcard! Las Galeras also has beautiful beaches. From Playa Las Galeras you can take a speedboat excursion to Las Tres Playas, the three beaches. This excursion will allow you to discover the most beautiful beaches of the region. First, you will visit Playa Fronton beach, which can only be reached by sea. The water here is crystal clear. You can see colorful fish and corals while snorkeling. After that, they will visit Playita, a pretty little beach whose waters are transparent and turquoise (also accessible by car). After a long drive full of impressions towards the south, you will reach the village of Bayahibe. Here you will feel the energy of the Dominican Republic. Since this drive is very long, we recommend you to visit La Cueva de las Maravillas on the way. A cave system with underground river courses and the largest developed dripstone cave in the Dominican Republic. It holds many impressive drawings of the Taino Indians. The labyrinth in the same complex is also worth a visit - here you can put your sense of direction to the test.

Today's prolonged drive takes you through San Jose de Ocoa towards the interior of the country. There you will leave the highway and drive over a beautiful, green landscape, through small, typical Dominican villages towards the north. At the small town of Piedra Blanca you will meet the Autopista Duarte, which leads from the south (Santo Domingo) to the north (Puerto Plata). You will follow this road through rural areas characterized by intensive agriculture. The drive leads along the fertile Cibao Valley to La Vega. Here Christopher Columbus had the fortress La Concepción built, because he suspected rich gold deposits in the region. Soon, the gradients increase on the well-maintained road. Here begins the mountain world of the Cordillera Central, also called the Dominican Alps, where many locals spend their summer vacations. The destination today: Jarabacoa.
We recommend you to check in at the hotel, freshen up and in the evening visit the restaurant Cafe Colao in the middle of the village. This represents a modern Dominican Republic. After dinner, you can take an evening sightseeing tour on converted golf carts (see picture). During this special tour through the small village you will be entertained by a musician. The typical instrument of the country, the güira, is passed around and can be tried by everyone. Tickets for the tour are available at the restaurant.
Meals included: Breakfast at the hotel
Services included: Rental car
Accommodation: Gran Jimenoa*** Jarabacoa – Deluxe Room
The climatic health resort of Jarabacoa is the center for hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers. Visit the charming town, visit the Monte Alto coffee factory, where everything about the cultivation and processing of coffee will be explained to you, or hike to one of the waterfalls Salto Baiguate or Salto Jimenoa. It's best to ask about it at the reception.
Meals included: Breakfast at the hotel

Accommodation: Gran Jimenoa*** Jarabacoa – Deluxe Room
Optional excursion (3-4 h): So close to the clouds – paragliding over the Dominican Alps
If you love adventure, we recommend you to take a gliding flight with Tony (flight time about 45 minutes). During the tandem flight you will glide through the air in pairs (please note that this activity is very dependent on the weather and we have to act accordingly). Feel the wind in your face and the unique feeling of flying, far away from the earth and closer to the birds - pure freedom! After your first flying experience, whenever you look up to the sky, you will be able to say: I was up there! Don't worry and don't be afraid, all paragliding pilots are certified and know the terrain and air currents very well.
Excursion day: Daily under good weather conditions
Take along: Take a warm sweater with you. It can be cold at the launch site
We do not recommend flying in sandals and flip-flops
You do not need any training to experience a tandem flight. A tandem flight is suitable for any person. You only need a good physical health.
Includes: Transportation from/to your hotel or accommodation in Jarabacoa to the starting point
Seat-in rate: 72 USD per person
After breakfast, we recommend that you head north to the Damajagua Waterfalls. Once here, you can book one of the different excursion packages directly at the ticket office. You have the choice between seven, twelve or 27 waterfalls to visit. In addition, activities such as a buggy tour (only possible with a valid driver's license!) and/or ziplining can be booked. After you have completed the formalities, a local guide will introduce you to canyoning with the most important information. You will receive a life jacket, helmet and water shoes if needed. After that, you will go on a 45-minute hike (for the first seven waterfalls) through a beautiful jungle landscape. Once at the top, you'll then begin your descent past waterfalls that you can slide down and even jump into! A wet adventure with thrills is provided. After the adrenaline rush, you will continue to Punta Rucia. The small town is located on a breathtaking sea bay at the tip of a small headland, where the water shimmers in the most beautiful shades of blue and turquoise in the sunshine.

Today, take an excursion to the sandbank Cayo Arena, also called Paradise Island. This is a jewel of the Dominican Republic and a highlight during your stay in Punta Rucia. Book the excursion directly at the hotel. You have the option to book a more luxurious speedboat or the typical local boats (lanchas). In any case, you should take your snorkeling equipment with you.
Excursion days: Daily
Take along: Swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses, snorkel gear, hat and camera
Seat-in rate: This excursion can be booked at the hotel
Today we will travel along the north coast towards Puerto Plata. Known for the pretty Victorian style wooden houses that are located around the central park and the 800 m high mountain Isabel de Torres. Whether by cable car or by car, we definitely recommend you to visit the mountain, where you will have a great view. On the top there is a smaller version of the statue of Christ, as it is known from Rio de Janeiro, as well as a botanical garden. In the old town of Puerto Plata, we recommend you visit the visitor center of the rum producer Macorix. Here you will learn everything about one of the most important products of the Dominican Republic. Afterwards, the journey continues via Sosua to Cabarete, known as the Mecca of water sports. For art lovers, we recommend a visit to the Mundo King art museum, founded by the German artist Rolf Schulz, which houses paintings and sculptures by Haitian and Dominican artists in a fantasy castle.
Meals included: Breakfast at the hotel
Services included: Rental car
Accommodation: Natura Cabana**** Cabarete – One Bedroom Bungalow
Take an excursion as you wish. Cabarete is known for its extensive sports activities, such as body, wind and kite surfing. Equipment or lessons can be booked at any time at the numerous surf schools on the beach - or you can watch the surfers perform their tricks from the deck chair. Alternatively, you can visit the El Choco National Park with its various wetlands and an ancient cave system. You can even swim in the approximately 23°C warm water of the cave lakes.
Meals included: Breakfast at the hotel
Services included: Rental car
Accommodation: Natura Cabana**** Cabarete – One Bedroom Bungalow
After breakfast, head along the coastal road to Rio San Juan. Visit the small bay Laguna Gri Gri, from which a channel lined with mangroves leads to the open sea. Boat tours can be booked in the bay, which are highly recommended.
Furthermore, we recommend a short swim stop at the beautiful and kilometer-long, wave-lined sandy beach Playa Grande between Rio San Juan and Cabrera. You should not miss the freshly prepared fish here. If you prefer a swim in a quieter bay, you should visit the beach Playa Caletón just behind Rio San Juan.
Afterwards, continue driving through the town of Cabrera. Visit Laguna Dudu here and take the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the two freshwater pools. The Laguna Dudu Park consists of the two cenotes Laguna Dudu and the Pozo de los Caballos, the horse well, which are connected by an underground tunnel. Laguna Dudu is 22 meters deep, has a deep blue color and is covered with lush vegetation all around.
Afterwards, we continue via Nagua to the peninsula of Samaná. The 63 km long and between 10 and 20 km wide peninsula of Samaná has a paradisiacal tropical landscape with secluded beaches in hidden bays, clean mountain rivers and rugged rocky coasts. Your destination is your hotel in Las Terrenas.
Meals included: Breakfast at the hotel
Services included: Rental car
Accommodation: Hotel Playa Colibri*** Las Terrenas – One Bedroom Apartment
Let your soul dangle on the beautiful and unique sandy beaches of this peninsula. Here you will experience pure Caribbean life. Palm trees swaying in the gentle wind, cool cocktails and the sounds of the music of merengue and bachata.
Meals included: Breakfast at the hotel
Services included: Rental car
Accommodation: Hotel Playa Colibri*** Las Terrenas – One Bedroom Apartment
Optional excursion (7-8 h): Los Haitises
The boat tour will take you to the Los Haitises National Park. You will be picked up at the hotel around 8:00 am. From here you will first go to Sanchez, where there is a small harbor from where the boat will depart. The tour will take you to one of the most interesting and untouched areas of humid tropical jungle in the Caribbean along the coastal zone of the protected area, which covers more than 200 km². Here a huge green mangrove belt stretches out and more than 50 small islands form a labyrinth of waterways. Over millions of years, rainfall has washed out caves here. These caves provided shelter for the indigenous people, as the old stone carvings still prove today. The park area represents one of the most important retreats of the native fauna and flora. Cave visits, bird breeding islands, mangrove forests and much more make this day an unforgettable experience.
Excursion days: wednesdays & saturdays
Take along: Swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses, cap or hat, solid, sneakers and camera
Includes: Transportation to/from your hotel or accommodation in Las Terrenas with Spanish-speaking driver, entrance fee to the national park, local English- or Spanish-speaking tour guide, boat trip, lunch and drinks
Seat-in rate: 85 USD per person
Guaranteed departure from 2 participants
Children from 2 to 11.99 years are allowed and pay 50% of the adult price
Optional excursion (4 h): Whale watching
Every year between mid-January (15/01) and mid-March (15/03), almost the entire humpback whale population of the North Atlantic Ocean gathers in the waters of the Dominican Republic. Both mating and birth of the whale calves take place in these warm and protected coastal waters. Samaná Bay is one of the few places in the world where whale calves can be seen up close with their mothers. It is also possible to observe groups of bulls in their fights for the females. In good weather conditions you have the unique opportunity to experience the whale songs of the bulls live. Become part of this unique natural spectacle!
Excursion days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday
8.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.
Take along: Sunscreen, sunglasses, cap or hat and camera
Includes: Transportation from/to your hotel or accommodation in Las Terrenas with Spanish-speaking driver and English-speaking tour guide and entrance fee
Seat-in rate: 85 USD per person
Optional excursion (4-5 h): El Limon Waterfall
Visit the highest waterfall on the Samana Peninsula. It is an impressive waterfall about 50 meters high. The waterfall consists of smaller waterfalls that fall down a green wall into a natural basin. It is a very nice and pleasant horseback ride with a docile horse led by a local guide that will take you to the top of the Limon waterfall in half an hour. Along the way you will be able to see various plants and tropical fruits. Once you get to the top, you will have to walk for about fifteen minutes to get to the place from where you can swim in this natural pool. Take photos, rest and return to the ranch where you will enjoy a very good Dominican buffet lunch!
If you don't want to ride and like to walk, you can also do this excursion on foot. Remember to wear good walking shoes as the trail is difficult due to the footprints left by the horses. The walk takes about 50 minutes each way.
Excursion days: daily
Take along: Swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses, cap or hat, camera and sturdy, closed-toe shoes, tip for local escorts (not mandatory)
Includes: Local horse guide, transportation from/to your hotel or accommodation in Las Terrenas with Spanish-speaking driver, lunch (buffet) with drinks.
Seat-in rate: 55 USD per person
Children from 0 to 4.99 years are allowed and free of charge, but we do not recommend them to participate, as the walk would be too exhausting for them. From the age of 5 years children count as adults
Enjoy the morning on the beach before heading back. Your return trip to Punta Cana will be on the new highway, which is very scenic and passes through part of Los Haitises National Park. You can return the car at the Punta Cana airport. Since you are returning the car to a different location than where you picked it up, you will have to pay a return fee when you drop off the rental car. This fee will be charged to your credit card when you pick up the car. If you have booked a beach extension with us, we will organize a transfer for you from Punta Cana airport (after dropping off the car) to your beach hotel.

The Bacardi Island
If you like crystal clear water and fine sand, you will love this half day excursion! You will be picked up at your hotel at 08:00 a.m. and driven to the private marina of Puerto Bahia. There you will board a boat to reach Cayo Levantado Island in just 25 minutes, where you can enjoy the fine white sand beach and crystal-clear waters. The excursion starts early in the morning so that you can avoid the larger groups of tourists that start arriving on the island at noon.
A delicious Dominican buffet awaits you for lunch, which you can enjoy with your feet in the sand and your eyes fixed on the ocean. The return to Las Terrenas will be around 4:30 p.m.
Depending on the group and your wishes, it is possible to make a stop in the morning at a shipwreck that is almost directly on the water and has become the retreat of thousands of colorful fish. You only need diving goggles and snorkel to view this majestic spectacle. Undoubtedly the most beautiful place for diving in the Samaná Peninsula.

On a modern, powerful Harley, swagger along the streets of Havana and the natural wonders of the community of Las Terrazas, the Viñales Valley and the Zapata Swamps. In Trinidad, admire one of the best preserved colonial architecture of this hemisphere. Down the road, visit a mausoleum of one of the mythical revolutionaries of the 20th century, Ernesto “Che” Guevara, a Harley’s lover himself, who toured South America on one. End your tour in Varadero, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with two relaxing overnights. Look forward to a fascinating adventure, one that will only get better if you are lucky enough to catch up with one of those Crazy-About-Old-Harleys Cubans revving along the way.

Accommodation with breakfast included: Iberostar Gran Packard Hotel, Deluxe Room, Havana
Havana generates a kind of nostalgic passion in those who do not have the pleasure of enjoying it every day. This charming city has the magic to tie you to its decadent architecture and its heartfelt people. In the morning, you start with a panoramic ride in classic American Oldtimers through the modern parts of Havana including the Malecón, the magical forest of Parque Almendares and of course, the famous Plaza de la Revolución. Here, you stop to admire the beautiful statue of the national hero José Martí, as well as the sculptural relief based on Korda's famous photo of “Che” Guevara. In the residential neighborhood of Vedado, a visit to the Irsula Studio gallery, whose artist, Arián, has spent years experimenting with abstract painting based on his fascination with fractals captured by cameras and special lenses is a special highlight. Lunch will be held with at the family residence of a young and extremely creative chef, who has created a unique atmosphere in his private home and gives his peculiar touch to his dishes, which are exclusively made out of fresh ingredients. To perfectly end the day, you stroll through the streets of Havana to discover the 4 most important old squares of the historic center. Walking along the emblematic Obispo Street you will find your way back to your accommodation.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Iberostar Gran Packard Hotel, Deluxe Room, Havana (B/L)
Start the day and warm up for today’s adventure having exclusive access to the rehearsals of the famous Havana Queens dance company. Behind the scenes you are able to see how a choreography is created and you will even be able to rehearse some steps with the dancers. Back in the city center you have a table reservation at a local private restaurant (paladar) to enjoy lunch or just some tapas accompanied by a spectacular view of the sea. (Lunch is not included, you can order what you want a la cart and pay on sight) In the afternoon you enjoy the hotels facilities. At the wonderful “Cigar – Lounge” accompanied by an experience sommelier, you enjoy the pleasant pairing of the flavor and aroma of the incomparable Cuban cigars and rum that will definitely permeate your mind and palate. The rest of the afternoon is free you may enjoy the hotel pool or simply discover the surroundings of this real and authentic city. At night, you have a special dinner at “San Cristóbal”, the restaurant frequented by Hollywood stars and even former President Obama meanwhile his official visit to Havana.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Iberostar Gran Packard Hotel, Deluxe Room, Havana (B/L/D)
Setting out for the Cuban countryside will free you from the city’s hustle and bustle and bring you spiritual relaxation. Enjoy the Cuban landscapes on the way to the city of Cienfuegos, the first stop on today’s route to Trinidad. Cienfuegos is a French-born city, modern in design and crossed by a central axis that is the Paseo del Prado. Just at the end of this avenue, after walking along the promenade, you will find one of the most eclectic buildings in Cuba. The Palacio de Valle is a mixture of styles with a Mudejar touch, which you will be able to appreciate in detail during the tour of its halls that will end with a spectacular view of the bay. Then you will enjoy a seafood lunch at Paladar Aché, a place renowned for its tasty shrimp. Once you have finished your cup of Cuban coffee, it is time to cross the coastal road across bridges and rivers that will take us to Trinidad. Founded in 1514, the city emerged among the largest population of Cuban natives in the country, which was later exterminated and gave way to ships full of slaves who took care of the growing sugarcane plantations. This turned the city into one of the richest in Cuba with families who spent fortunes on mansions, adornments of the latest European fashion and magnificent furniture made from the precious woods of the Cuban forests. After the decline in the price of sugar the city was frozen in time and, thanks to this, today you can appreciate the beautiful architecture.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Iberostar Grand Hotel Trinidad, Double Room, Trinidad (B/L)
The narrow cobblestone streets of Trinidad, used by the carriages in the colonial times, are not ideal for modern cars. For this reason, and because of the beauty of the local architecture, today you will do part of the city tour on foot. Before that, you can have fun trying to mold a clay figure in “La Casa del Alfarero”, the best-known workshop in town. Pottery has been a tradition here for several generations and can be seen on the red tiles of almost every roof in the old part of town. Its color forms a beautiful spectacle at dusk next to the green of the mountains and the last rays of the sun. You will also learn about the art of Trinitarian embroidery, another craft that helped Trinidad to obtain the title of Craft City of the World granted by UNESCO. Later you will be able to acquire an embroidered piece at the handicrafts market during the tour of the old town. You can also visit the Brunet Palace, a small palace belonging to one of the richest families in Trinidad, which includes an exquisite collection of antiques from the colonial era. At noon, when the heat is intense, you will appreciate the traditional cocktails at Café Real accompanied by a delicious lunch in the patio of the old house, today one of the best preserved structures in the city. In the evening you will enjoy Cuban music with an entrance fee included to the “Casa de la Trova”. Live or recorded music with authentic Cuban rhythms will surely awaken your desire to dance, and it won’t be too difficult to have a local dancer teach you the first steps.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Iberostar Grand Hotel Trinidad, Double Room, Trinidad (B/L)
Today will be an intense day. Before leaving the Trinidad area, you will stop to see the “Valle de los Ingenios” (Sugar mills Valley), first from the viewpoint on the Loma del Puerto and a little later during the visit to the icon of the city: The Manaca Iznaga hacienda. The remains of this 19th century hacienda, including its legendary tower, are a living example of the economic power of Trinidad's sugar families. Next, the route includes the passage through the Guamuahaya mountain range and “El Hoyo de Manicaragua”, famous for its top-quality dark tobacco. Finally, you will arrive at Santa Clara, where the last battle was fought before the triumph of the Revolution. You will visit the impressive mausoleum that guards the remains of the Argentinean guerrilla fighter Ernesto "Che" Guevara. For lunch we recommend the Fusione restaurant (not included) with excellent dishes and a delicious “bombón” coffee that should not be missed. After lunch it's time to head to Cuba's most famous beach. After a 3 hour drive, we will reach the idyllic Varadero beach.
All-inclusive accommodation: Hotel Iberostar Selection Varadero, Double Room, Varadero (B/AI)
Varadero has for years been chosen by thousands of travelers, to be among the 10 best beaches in the world. With 22 km of extension there is enough space to enjoy its white sands and to swim in its calm waters all year round. There is also a small urban center where most of the inhabitants live, with local businesses and night clubs like the Palacio de la Rumba, La Casa de la Música or “La Comparsita”. In the hotel zones you will find international marinas with facilities for fishing, water sports, excursions to virgin keys and diving. There is also an 18-hole golf course with magnificent views of the sea.

Live the Experience! E-bike & Climbing
We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure and today’s tour offers the unique opportunity to live a very different and unique experience. In the morning, the tour starts with picking up the electric bikes at the offices of Caribbean Tours, in the Vedado neighborhood. From there pedal through different avenues and streets of this famous Havana district until reaching the Boulder Sector of Havana, a location that appears on the Mountain Project page where climbing sites from around the world are registered. A sport rock climbing experience on this 8m high rock formation, on the banks of the Almendares River, is today’s main attraction. It is not necessary to be an expert to carry out the activity, all safety equipment will be provided, and certified instructors will accompany groups during the activity. After a little warm up and stretching to relax the muscles two designated routes will be taken uphill. After the climb one gets on the bike again and the way leads through the forest of Havana, where the beauties of Havana’s natural environment can be admired. Final stop is at the emblematic Plaza de la Revolución to take some pictures before heading back to the offices of Caribbean tour where the E-Bikes will be returned.

Unique Women in Havana
This tour gives you the opportunity to meet unique women who have broken gender stereotypes by developing extraordinary ventures. The tour begins at Ciclo Papel, an ecological and family project. You will be able to witness the transformation of old documents, newspapers, cardboard and other recyclable elements into art and crafts; For this, rainwater is used with the aim of giving paper a new life without the use of chemical products, thus promoting the culture of recycling in the city. Then you take a walk to Zulu, a business with more than 30 years of experience. Professional women, began creating leather bags from leather cuts abandoned in a shoe factory. Currently they have a very defined style due to their slogan which is “have you seen a similar bag?” Next, you take a bike taxi to visit Beyond Roots, the first Afro-style store on the island. Its founder’s passion for raising awareness of natural beauty and pride in African roots is its driving force. To end this interesting tour, you will enjoy some tapas and a cocktail at the Oasis Nelva creperie, where all the ingredients are fresh and organic, making this a true oasis in this sometimes hectic city.

To find good Cuban pottery, you do not necessarily need to go to turisty craft markets near old squares. In fact, today you will go to the other side of the city in a ride like no other, to enjoy the fabulous experience of creating a piece of ceramic by yourself. Look forward to lots of fun, especially if you are bringing your kids. A classic car will take you along the Malecón onto the 5th Avenue, amidst beautiful mansions and leafy trees. Just by the sea, at a quiet part of the city, is Santacana Workshop. Amid glazed pieces, tiled murals and colourful paintings, artist Beatriz Santacana will guide you through the creative process of your own work of art. In a homely atmosphere, you will also have the opportunity to admire the internationally renowned work of Mrs. Santacana and purchase some if you like. Return in a classic car to your accommodation.
Note: After 48 hours in the kiln, your piece will be ready to be shipped to your accommodation in Havana.

You will get to know the first city built by Europeans in the Americas. Here the first cathedral in the New World was built, the first governor resided, the first bishop was consecrated, and the first hospital opened. The lively city of over a million inhabitants has a number of cultural, especially architectural, sights to offer that you won't find anywhere else on the island of Hispaniola. You will start the day in the historic old town, the so-called Zona Colonial, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the city tour you will see the Palace of Diego Columbus, the historical museum Casas Reales, the Cathedral, and the Parque Colón with the bronze monument of Christopher Columbus. You will stroll through Calle de las Damas, the first street paved in Santo Domingo for the ladies of the Spanish nobility to stroll, and the pedestrian zone El Conde with its many stores and street vendors, as well as bars and restaurants. The afternoon is at your leisure to explore the first city of the New World or relax at the hotel.
In the evening you will be picked up at your hotel by a Caribbean Tours representative if you wish. Your destination is a typical local restaurant in the old town. Dine à la carte and taste tempting local specialties. The cost of dinner is payable on site and is not included in the price.
Street Art and Street Food
The journey today will take you to Santiago. Once there, you will visit Los Pepines, one of the most emblematic neighborhoods right in the historic center of the city. In 2016, the local government decided to paint the most run-down areas and beautify the neighborhood in order to revitalize the local economy. Just two years later, Los Pepines became a tourist attraction in Santiago thanks to its colorful and expressive murals. On a walking tour, you'll unravel the stories behind each painting: who are the people depicted in the murals? What is the meaning of the colors? What connection do they have to the local culture? You will find out! Street food, of course, cannot be missing from this walk. During the tour you will make several stops to taste the typical empanadas, dumplings filled with vegetables or meat, and fresh fruit juices - simply delicious!
Afterwards, you will continue to Punta Rucia. The small fishing village is located on a breathtaking sea bay at the tip of a small cape, where the water shimmers in the most beautiful shades of blue and turquoise in the sunshine.
Meals included: Breakfast at the hotel and snack during the visit of the murals
Services included: Transport with Spanish-speaking driver and English-speaking tour guide
Accommodation: Option 1: Punta Rucia Lodge**** Punta Rucia – Superior Garden View
Option 2: Punta Rucia Lodge**** Punta Rucia – Suite Ocean View
Paradise island
Today you will take an excursion to the sandbank Cayo Arena or also called Paradise Island. It is a jewel of the Dominican Republic and a highlight during your stay in Punta Rucia. After breakfast you can reach Cayo Arena directly from the beach in about 25 minutes by boat. Here you will enjoy the tranquility in paradisiacal surroundings, take a refreshing swim or observe shoals of tropical fish in the shallow turquoise waters. After a few hours stay, you will return to the hotel.
Meals included: Breakfast at the hotel
Services included: Boat trip and English-speaking tour guide
Accommodation: Option 1: Punta Rucia Lodge**** Punta Rucia – Superior Garden View
Option 2: Punta Rucia Lodge**** Punta Rucia – Suite Ocean View
Colonial history, natural treasures and rum
After breakfast, today you will head to Puerto Plata, known for the pretty Victorian-style wooden houses that are located around the city' s central park and the 800-meter-high Mount Isabel de Torres. You will explore the history and culture of the city on a guided tour through the historic center. You will visit the Amber Museum and the Fortaleza San Felipe fortification, one of the oldest well-preserved fortresses from the colonial era. The large, massive complex was built in 1577 to make attacks from the water more difficult. You'll also take the cable car up to the 800-meter-high Mount Isabel de Torres for spectacular views of the city and the coast. At the top is a huge statue of Christ the Redeemer, one of the province's landmarks, as well as a beautiful botanical garden. Before continuing, you will visit the Macorix House of Rum, the visitor center of the local rum brand Macorix. During the tour, you will learn all about the history of the rum factory and the manufacturing process. Of course, a rum tasting at the end of the tour is not to be missed!
Afterwards you will drive to Cabarete. The small town is popular with surfers and has made a name for itself worldwide as a Caribbean water sports hotspot.

Here at the cacao plantation Hacienda La Esmeralda, which supplies world-renowned chocolate factories, you will have the unique opportunity to learn everything from the cultivation of the cacao bean to chocolate processing. Of course, a cocoa and chocolate tasting is also part of the program. Lunch will be provided during the tour. Afterwards, you will continue to Tamboril and visit a cigar factory, where everything about tobacco processing and cigar manufacturing will be explained to you.

Coffee cultivation in the Dominican Alps
Today the journey goes back south along the mountain flanks of the Central Cordillera. Here you will make a small detour to the Dominican Alps. Many locals spend their summer vacations here because of the pleasant temperatures. Jarabacoa is located at 600 meters above sea level and is surrounded by pine forests, mountains and the valleys of the rivers Rio Yaque del Norte and Rio Jimenoa. Spring-like temperatures prevail here all year round. The climatic health resort is the center for hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers. You will visit the charming town of Jarabacoa and visit the Monte Alto coffee factory, where everything about the cultivation and processing of coffee will be explained to you. Of course, there will also be a coffee tasting. Afterwards you will have time to visit the restaurant, Alta Vista. The trendy restaurant is located high up on a mountain and is known beyond the borders of the city. The terrace offers a fantastic panorama and a spectacular view of the nearby town of La Vega. If you would like to have lunch here, inform your guide (cost to be covered by the participants). Afterwards, we will return to Santo Domingo.

Accommodation: Option 1: Hotel Villa Colonial*** Santo Domingo – Standard Room

Wonder caves and artists village
Today we will drive towards the southeast. On the way you will visit the interesting cave system Cueva de las Maravillas with underground river courses and stalactite caves. It is the largest developed stalactite cave in the Dominican Republic and holds many impressive drawings of the Taíno Indians.
Afterwards, you will visit the replica of a 16th century Mediterranean village located on the Chavón River. The village of Altos de Chavón has been faithfully reconstructed according to the original plans of an Andalusian settlement with Roman style elements made of coral limestone. There is a church, an amphitheater, and an archaeological museum of the Taíno culture with various exhibitions. Even today, artisans, painters and sculptors live and work here. Afterwards transfer to the airport.
If you want to enjoy your time on the island a bit more to indulge in the impressions of the trip, book a beach extension. Relax on the beach of Bayahibe or Punta Cana, your transfer is included as long as the beach extension is also booked with us.

Arts, a tool for life
Some may think art as a simple intention of an artist to express himself/herself, some others consider international recognition as the artists´ raison d’être.
Cuban artist Kcho uses art as a tool for life, and by having his studio in Romerillo neighborhood he has brought art to a community deprived of it. Not only he has built a huge compound featuring galleries, workshops, a theater, a library and plenty of open spaces for creation, but he has undertaken a sort of artistic intervention in the community, scattering works by Spencer Tunick, Andy Warlhol, Amelia Peláez and Mariano Rodríguez across parks, bus stops, grocery stores and living rooms of common people’s houses. The fact that none of these works has been stolen or damaged is evidence enough of the transformational positive impact of this initiative. As Kcho himself is used to saying: “people respond to respect with more respect”.

During the trip you will pass through Cienfuegos, known as La Perla del Sur, with its neoclassical French airs and its immense bay. The peninsula is home to one of the most interesting palaces in Cuba: the Palacio de Valle. To wrap up this trip, we have chosen a colonial jewel, a city caught in the time of slavery and sugar. Trinidad, the third town founded by the Spanish, is a delight for any lens. Its mansions, cobbled streets and people, create for authentic images of this country. Since its foundation in 1519, Havana has lived a love story with the sea. From a classic American car, you will take a panoramic tour in search of the perfect views where the city and the sea merge: the Morro fortress, the Malecón in Havana and the viewpoint of the “Plaza de la Revolución”. Continue at a leisurely pace through the parks and mansions of Vedado neighborhood, down to the authentic municipality of Centro Habana. Once there, relish in a unique gastronomic experience at La Guarida, one of the most famous restaurants in Cuba and footage setting of the Oscar-nominated film "Strawberry and Chocolate". Well into the afternoon, head for the historic centre of the city. A stroll through the bustling Calle Obispo, crossing the famous squares of “Plaza de Armas” as well as “Plaza de la Catedral” just to perfectly round up the day with a delicious cocktail at “Plaza Vieja” is a total must. To conclude the afternoon, you will return to the accommodation in a fun Cocotaxi (the Tuk Tuk from Havana). (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast included:
Hotel Mystique Habana in Deluxe room or similar, Havana
Each viewpoint has its charm. Our excursion today departs from Havana to the town of Viñales, where you will find some of the best-known views of Cuba: The Viñales Valley with its unmistakable Mogotes. Rest your eyes before this wonder of nature and observe its fertile lands where tobacco is also cultivated. Learn the basic principles of harvesting tobacco and the art of twisting a cigar from a local farmer. From the top of a hill, overlooking the characteristic tranquility of the “Valle del Silencio” (Valley of silence), enjoy a lunch made with organic products grown by a nature-loving family. Before returning to the capital, appreciate an exquisite Piña Colada while taking in one of the largest open-air murals in the world: The Mural of Prehistory. This painting reflects the evolution of the species in Cuba before the arrival of man. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast included:
Hotel Mystique Habana in Deluxe room or similar, Havana
After breakfast, you will take the national highway towards the beautiful marine city of Cienfuegos. This port city, founded by a group of French and Spanish settlers at the beginning of the 19th century, has one of the most important bays in the country, and among its many attributes, striking neoclassical architecture. After lunch at a local paladar, you will visit the Palacio de Valle, an emblematic mansion located in the Punta Gorda district that recalls Hispanic Moorish architecture with Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque and Mudejar influences. We then leave for the next city on our route founded by the Spanish Crown in Cuba in 1514 under the name “Villa de la Santísima Trinidad”; the third town founded in Cuba. Today Trinidad is one of the best-preserved colonial cities not only in Cuba, but also in America. In the afternoon we will savor a refreshing cocktail in a local downtown bar. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast included:
Hotel Mystique Trinidad in a standard room or similar, Trinidad
Walking the streets of Trinidad is not an easy task due to the uneven cobbled streets that are more than 2 centuries old. However, the historic center, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is quite a spectacle for its stately mansions that preserve the splendor of an era where slavery turned sugar into a coveted commodity. With the sugar mills that grew in the valley, wealth appeared and Trinidad became one of the main cities of Cuba. Our tour also shows the art that flourished in the villa with a visit to the gallery of a famous local artist and a potter's home (Casa del Alfarero). A Different Island
There is a Cuba that has not yet been discovered. It lies in small towns, well off the trodden path, where people are exceptionally hospitable and pure. This tour is about finding that hidden gem. Engage with people through unique, exciting activities. Explore Sagua la Grande, a forgotten city that used to be one of the wealthiest in the 19th century. Visit the port town of Isabela de Sagua to savour seafood delicacies at a restaurant built on stilts over the water. Hike the spectacular-yet-unsung “Jumaguá Mogotes” and appreciate the quirky flora species. Kayak across the waters of the beautiful Bay of Cienfuegos. Relax on the white sand beach of Ancón after a tour through the colonial architecture of Trinidad. In Santa Clara, a city marked by “Che” Guevara’s deeds, learn about the history of the revolution. Jump into the deepest cenote in Cuba, situated in Playa Larga. Wrap up your adventure in Havana. Tour the city on an e-bike to admire its colourful, decaying buildings. Hop on a Cocotaxi, then an American classic car, to take in iconic sites such as the Revolution Square and the Malecón. Your memories and pictures will be the envy of your friends.
8 days/7 nights
Havana, Sagua la Grande, Bay of Pigs, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Ancón, Santa Clara

- Thoughtful combination of accommodations in small boutique hotels and casas particulares
- Group departures guaranteed between 2 pax minimum and 16 pax maximum
Welcome at the airport. Transfer to your hotel in Matanzas City. Dinner at own expense.
Note: Surcharges for transfer (Havana - Matanzas) for clients arriving at the airport in Havana see Caribbean Tours transfer rates.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Louvre Hotel (3*) or similar, Matanzas
Matanzas is dubbed the Athens of Cuba for its profusion in literature and arts. Due to the many water channels, it is also referred to as the city of bridges. In the morning, walk through the historical centre. Visit an old French drugstore dating back to the 19th century, now a pharmaceutical museum, with an impressive collection of utensils and formulations. Before leaving the city, admire the spectacular view of the Yumurí Valley and the bay of Matanzas from “La Ermita de Monserrate”. Visit "Finca Coincidencia", a charming natural spot where arts, pottery and organic farming thrive. The owners will guide you through the estate, explaining the concept of the project, and will offer a delicious lunch prepared with products from the farm. Continue to Sagua la Grande. En route, appreciate the rural life while cruising through farming towns that have not been touched by tourism. Tour the city in the evening. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast included: Sagua Hotel (3*) or similar, Sagua La Grande
Sagua la Grande in largely unknown when it comes to tourism, and very few know of its glorious past. Home to businessmen, artists and casinos, the city was one of the most prosperous in the 19th century. Nowadays, it is the archetype of a Cuban countryside town. In the morning, explore the natural park Mogotes de Jumaguá 1, an interesting formation highlighted by 8 “mogotes”, which play host to a significant number of endemic species, including the very rare Jumaguá palm tree. Visit a cave and climb to the top of one of the mogotes to admire the spectacular landscape dominated by the palm trees. Enjoy a natural fruit juice prepared by local farmers. Continue to Isabela de Sagua by a road that runs alongside the second oldest railroad in Cuba. This fishermen town is known for its seafood, and that you are welcome to enjoy for lunch (not included) at a picturesque restaurant built on stilts. Look forward to freshly caught oysters or crabs, depending on the season, while enjoying the unmistakable sea air. In the afternoon, leave for Santa Clara to visit Vidal Park, the social and cultural heart of the city. (B)
Recommendation: Check out with your guide the night program at El Mejunje, a cultural centre known for its ample selection of acts, which range from Cuban ballads, to rock to drag shows.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Hotel E Central (3*) or similar or Casa Particular, Santa Clara
1 Una caminata de dos horas con algunos pasajes parcialmente empinados. Es necesario tener zapatos resistentes y un estado físico normal.
Santa Clara exudes history. The last battle that effectively determined the triumph of the revolution was fought here on 1958 Christmas. Che, as was known the famous Argentinian guerrilla fighter Ernesto Guevara, was the mastermind of that victory. Visit the place dedicated to the key action of that clash, the derailment of the armoured train, which feature the original wagons. Continue to the cigar factory 2 to learn about the art of the hand rolling of the famous Cuban “puros”. En route to Cienfuegos, stop at the monument of Che Guevara. Arrive at the “pearl of the south”, a city founded by the French, with a marked classic style. Kayak across the large bay, once a hotbed of pirates, to enjoy a unique perspective of the city skyline. In the afternoon, visit the gorgeous Palacio de Valle, an eclectic, Moorish style palace. Built by Don Asisclo del Valle to live with his wife, you will enjoy here a delicious cocktail at sunset. Rest of the day at leisure. (B)
Accommodation with breakfast included: Casa particular, e.g., Casa Maikel or similar, Cienfuegos
2 Tobacco factories are closed to regular visitors on public holidays, on Sundays, during company vacations and during the Tobacco Festival. Sometimes also on other days without prior notice. Caribbean Tours can therefore not guarantee that the factory will be open. In the event of closure, an attempt will be made to offer an alternative program.
The image of Trinidad resembles an engraving dating to the 19th century. Frozen in time, the third villa founded by Spaniards in Cuba, is a must when visiting the island. Neglected for decades, the city has been restored and brought to life by a thriving tourism industry. Your trip there takes you along the south coast, circumventing the Escambray mountain range. Stroll through the old squares, cobblestone streets and craft markets of the UNESCO World Heritage city. Taste the local cuisine at a “paladar”. Continue to the white sand beach of Ancón to swim and tan. Well into the afternoon, return to Cienfuegos. Dinner will be arranged at your accommodation. (B/L/D)
Accommodation with breakfast included: Casa particular, e.g., Casa Maikel or similar, Cienfuegos
Leave for the nation’s capital city. En route, cruise through Bay of Pigs, the battleground where the nascent Cuban Revolution defeated the infamous invasion planned by the CIA and executed by Cuban exiles in 1961. Visit the Playa Girón Museum to revive those dark moments through the exhibition of objects, weapons and even a plane that took part in the battle. Nearing Playa Larga, stop at “La Cueva de los Peces”, the most famous cenote in Cuba. Enjoy some time for swimming in that natural pond and snorkeling in the sea, as well as a typical lunch. You are welcome to feed the fish with breadcrumbs to enjoy a colorful spectacle. Continue to Havana. Night at leisure. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast included: Casa Particular, e.g., Juan de la Habana or similar, La Habana
Your day begins by hopping on a Cocotaxi (coconut shaped mode of transportation) for a transfer to Caribbean Tours office to pick up your e-bike. Look forward to a tour of Havana like no other. Pedal along the Malecón, Havana’s maritime balcony. Arrive at Old Havana to walk your e-bike through the gorgeous “plazas”. Admire the colonial architecture that tells the story of the 500-year-old historical city. Continue your ride in direction of Centro Habana for a lunch at the famous paladar “La Guarida”, a place that served as shooting set for the Oscar-nominated Cuban film “Fresa y Chocolate”. In the afternoon, visit a favourite of the mob in the 1940s: Hotel Nacional. Discover the myths behind the “mafia” in Havana, the underground trenches build during the Missile Crisis, and the halls that hosted the greatest celebrities of the 1950s. After a refreshing mojito, go back to the starting point of the tour to drop off the bicycles. From there, an American classic car will take you through the beautiful mansions of the neighbourhoods of Vedado and Miramar, all the way to your accommodation. (B/L)
About our e-bikes
We are very proud of our excellent e-bikes! There are no e-bike stores in Cuba, so acquiring and keeping them in good working order is a challenge for bikers. All our e-bikes are imported from Germany and are ideally appointed for the hilly and bumpy streets of Havana.
Accommodation with breakfast included: Casa Particular, e.g., Juan de la Habana or similar, La Habana
Morning at leisure. You might want to further explore Old Havana on your own and purchase souvenirs. At noon, transfer to Varadero airport to catch your flight home or transfer to your accommodation in Varadero in case of a beach extension (not included). (B)

Commuting in Havana is a challenge for Cubans due to the poor public transportation. Have fun exploring Havana on all kind of wheeled vehicles. Kick off your day hoping on a bicitaxi to contemplate the city waking up. This tricycle is used by many Cubans to make groceries and move around the neighborhoods. Once in Old Havana, discover the colonial past of the city in a walking tour of its four main squares. Give the midday heat a miss with a lunch and a refreshing Mojito at a local restaurant. Take a horse-drawn carriage for a tour around the bay up to the heart of mid-century Havana: The Central Park. Admire the Cuban architecture in all her splendor with renowned buildings like the Havana Capitol, the Great Theater Alicia Alonso and the Inglaterra Hotel. To make the picture perfect, tens of classic cars of the 50s taxiing around set up the scene. Get comfortable on the back seat of one of those, called by locales “almendrones”, for a panoramic tour of the entire city. Visit the Revolution Square, the Metropolitan Park, the neighborhood of Miramar with its 5th Avenue and the Malecón, ending at your homestay. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. San Lázaro 115 or similar, Havana
The people you are going to meet today have something in common: their passion for arts. The morning starts with a visit to José Fuster project, the "Gaudi of the Caribbean". A well-known naïve Cuban artist, specialized in ceramics and painting. During the last 18 years he has made an important contribution to the community by building, restoring and decorating the houses of Jaimanita’s village, the place where he lives in the outskirts of the city. Continue to visit a rehearsal of the company Havana Queens, a project born of the association of the Cuban choreographer Rosario Blanco and the Swiss producer Patrick Hofer. You will learn about the various Cuban rhythms and will have the opportunity to meet and greet the dancers. Head for a tour of the neighborhood of San Isidro, in Old Havana. Full of controversies and home to renowned dissident artists, the place is filled with contentious paintings crafted by graffiti artists on the walls of crumbling buildings. You will notice a flourishing movement of young artists and entrepreneurs galvanizing the dynamics of the community with art galleries and local business. Arrive at San José Warehouse, the largest craft market in Cuba, where you will be able to purchase a souvenir. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. In the evening, dinner at Casa Miglis restaurant with an entertainment show courtesy of Havana Queens to see in action the dancers you met earlier today. (B/D)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. San Lázaro 115 or similar, Havana
Trade the noise and agitation of Havana for a stunning natural scenery. In the morning, head for Pinar del Río province. Stop in Soroa to admire the orchid garden with a collection of more than 350 species. Leave for a visit to Patio de Pelegrín, a community project created by the artist Mario Pelegrín. This initiative channels the energy of the youth into arts and introduces them to a variety of art forms. Alongside Pelegrín and his team, prepare a traditional dessert. Your trip continues. Arrive in Viñales and appreciate from the lookout point of Los Jazmines the breathtaking valley dotted with its iconic “mogotes”. Visit the house of a “veguero”, where you will be briefed on the world of tobacco. Check in at a Cuban family home in the town of Viñales. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Villa El Habano or similar, Viñales
Nature does not cease to amaze. You will not need an alarm clock today, as one of the neighbor’s roosters will happily help with that. Head for the Zapata Swamps, the largest marshlands in the insular Caribbean. Lunch in route and stop at the Zunzún’s House, the private “patio” of Mr. Bernabé. In this birds’ paradise you will be able to appreciate freely flying hummingbirds, the tinniest bird in the world, as well as other species that use the area as a migration corridor. Not far from there, you will discover the Cueva de los Peces, known as the deepest and most beautiful cenote in Cuba. There is a lagoon that connects with an extensive system of underwater caverns going more than 30 kilometers, from Playa Larga to El Toro Cove. You will have the option to spend the rest of your day at the beach near your homestay. At night, enjoy a homemade dinner at your casa particular. (B/L/D)
Accommodation with breakfast and dinner: Casa particular, e.g. Casa Enrique or similar, Playa Larga
Early in the morning, hit the road bordering Bay of Pigs in direction to Playa Girón, battleground of the 1961 invasion of Cuban mercenaries supported by the US Navy and Air Force, which resulted in the first great defeat of the US military in America. At the Museum of Playa Girón you will learn details of the clash, including the weaponry utilized. Arrive in Cienfuegos, a city of distinctive wide avenues and neoclassic architecture, which was founded and designed to the smallest detail by French settlers. Visit the Tomás Terry Theater, built in 1890; the Martí Park and the boulevard. After lunch at a paladar (privately owned restaurant), continue alongside the south coast down to Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage for its well-preserved colonial architecture dating back to the golden years of the sugar industry in the 19th Century. Tour its cobblestone streets and plazas. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Casa Osmary y Alberto or similar, Trinidad
Cubans love nature and therefore many places on the island are protected by environmental laws. One of these places is todays destination: the "Sierra del Escambray" National Park. This beautiful environment gives a home to almost half of the endemic bird species in Cuba and furthermore nearby areas are famous for the high quality of the Arabica coffee that is grown here and known in the whole country for its excellent quality. The trip starts from Trinidad in the morning through a winding road to a Cuban farm. Today guests will come into contact with the countryside and its beauties. Beehives can be visited and some sweet honey enjoyed. A path leads to a waterfall of crystal clear waters which literally invites to take a dip and cool off in the middle of a beautiful landscape. Then a traditional lunch in the gardens of the hacienda will be served. While lying on one of the most comfortable hammocks and feeling the soft country breeze relaxation is granted an exquisite coffee can be enjoyed. In the afternoon return to Trinidad. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Casa Osmary y Alberto or similar, Trinidad
Leave behind Trinidad on a 16 km drive leading to the villa’s most iconic site: The Manaca Iznaga Tower. Outlasting the slavery times, this tower overlooks the Valle de los Ingenios, a sugar cane industry powerhouse in the colonial period. Continue to Santa Clara, the city that witnessed the most important victory of the iconic guerrilla fighter Ernesto “Che” Guevara, one that effectively determined the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. Visit the “Che” Guevera Memorial3 , the final resting place of the epoch-making revolutionary. Stop and enjoy a refreshing drink in a restaurant with beautiful decorative plants. En route to Havana, stop in Varadero to drop off clients opting for a beach extension. (B)
Note: Caribbean Tours recommends against arranging international flight connections on the same day that the tour ends. Arrival in time to the airport is not guaranteed in those cases and Caribbean Tours does not take responsibility for that. Instead, it is recommended to take a private transfer from Trinidad or an additional night in Havana or Varadero (not included).
2 The km figure applies to the route Trinidad - Santa Clara - Havana without a stopover in Varadero. With a stop in Varadero, the number of kilometers for the route Trinidad - Santa Clara - Varadero - Havana is 510 km
3 The “Che” Guevara Memorial officially closes on Mondays but, occasionally, it can close any other day without notice. Caribbean Tours does not take responsibility for those changes. However, even from the outside, the visit to the monument, with its impressive image of “Che”, is recommended.

Touring Havana is a fascinating roller coaster of feelings. You will explore this Wonder City following a singular route. Kick off your day hoping into a cocotaxi, a coconut-shaped vehicle that will take you through back streets in the neighborhoods of Centro Habana and Vedado, up to the iconic Revolution Square. Ascend to the lookout for a spectacular panorama of the entire city. Continue in the comfort of an American classic car. These beauties, symbols of prosperity in the 50s, have been kept in perfect condition thanks to the ingenuity of Cubans. Get your camera ready on your way through the Havana Metropolitan Park and the Miramar neighborhood, with its gorgeous 5th Avenue flanked by old bourgeois mansions, many of which are now foreign embassies. Feel the pure air from the sea while cruising along the habaneros’ long sofa, the Malecón. Stop for a walking tour of Old Havana, the best way to discover the older part of the city. Explore the four main squares to admire classics such as the Catedral de La Habana, the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales and the Convento de San Francisco de Asís. Lunch at a Paladar (privately owned restaurant) and time at leisure for souvenir shopping at the San José craft market. Return to your casa particular on a bicitaxi. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. La Siguaraya or similar, Havana
Today you will be introduced to the Cuban cuisine. Visit a produce market where your guide will brief you on the Cubans’ typical groceries and the difficulties to come by basic items. Arrive later at the fishing village of Cojímar, where the American writer Ernest Hemingway liked to spend time chatting with fishermen. Prepare a traditional Cuban dish alongside a chef after picking some essential ingredients from the family orchard. Enjoy the elaboration process while sipping a delicious cocktail. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the Afro-Cuban religious customs and traditions. An expert will brief you on the beliefs, the deities and the connection with European Catholicism. This will help you understand why so many Cubans dress in all white clothing. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. La Siguaraya or similar, Havana
The smell of wet soil and fresh leaves indicates the arrival to Pinar del Río, the greenest of Cuba’s provinces and home to the best tobacco in the world. Here you will have a unique opportunity to learn about this crop at the Quemado de Rubí, one of the top 5 tobacco farms in Cuba. The owner, Héctor Luis, is an Hombre Habano (Habano Man), a title equivalent to the Oscars of tobacco. On the property you will be introduced to the entire process, from the growing of the leaves up to the rolling by hand. After lunch, you will have the option to light up an authentic habano and enjoy the spicy-sweet flavor. En route to Viñales, stop at the lookout point Los Jazmines to appreciate the stunning Viñales Valley with its distinctive limestone outcrops called Mogotes. Continue to the small town where you will be staying at a casa particular. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Villa El Habano or similar, Viñales
The charm of the area does not lie exclusively in its beauty. It is also renowned for the harmony between its people and the environment. Trek to appreciate the farmers laboring with rudimentary tools. Learn how they use traditional seeds for their crops and almost no pesticide. Taste typical products like honey and delicious tropical fruits, depending on the season. Appreciate the gorgeous Mogotes, full of vegetation. Given the fragility of the eco-systems they are home to, there are laws in place to enforce their protection. After the walk, enjoy a succulent lunch at an ecological restaurant that utilizes fresh ingredients and eco-friendly products. Learn about the bigger project of sustainable agriculture that the restaurant is a part of while admiring the view of the Silence Valley. As is customary in the Cuban countryside, take a short rest to help your digestion. Continue to the small botanical garden of Caridad for a visit and tour. Built and maintained by two sisters, this backyard is a private property that plays host to a wide variety of plants from different regions. Later, time at leisure. (B/L)

Leave the lovely farmland for the Venetian-style city of Matanzas, also known as the Athens of Cuba for its profusion of arts. En route, enjoy the best piña colada in Cuba at one of the gems of Cuban engineering, the Bacunayagua Bridge. Built over the Yumuri Valley, it is the tallest in Cuba standing at 103 meters and features a lookout point that offers an incredible view of the structure, the sea and the valley. Once in Matanzas, check in at a hotel in the Parque de la Libertad. Right across, there is the Pharmaceutical Museum, formerly a French Drugstore, one of the oldest and best preserved in the world. Appreciate the original tools and containers dating back to the 19th century as well as nearly 800 thousand formulations. Admire the city as you stroll down the Paseo Narvaes, a gorgeous pedestrian path, recently renovated, along the San Juan River. Accommodation with breakfast: E Hotel El Louvre (or similar), or a selected Casa particular, Matanzas
Cienfuegos is the only Cuban city founded by the French. The perfect layout of the streets, the spacious avenues and a special relation with the sea, makes it an ideal city to stroll through. Visit the Martí Park to appreciate the architecture of the iconic buildings such as the Tomás Terry Theater, the Ferrer Palace, the former Spanish Casino and the Cathedral. Lunch at a Paladar to taste seafood delicacies. In the afternoon, head to an old colonial city of cobblestone streets, mansions with high windows and courtyards, tall bell towers and unique craft industry tracing back to the 19th century. Trinidad is the name of this charming city. Once there, after a one-hour drive along a seaside road, walk through its “plazas” and visit a pottery workshop to learn the secrets of this Trinitarian tradition. At night, go with the flow and take a seat on the stairway of the main square to enjoy the captivating music from the La Casa de la Musica. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Hostal Vivian y Pablo or similar, Trinidad

Your day begins with a stop at the Sugar Mills Valley. Sugar industry flourished here in the 19th century, bringing about great prosperity to Trinidad. The landlords of the mills, wealthy families that owned the lands from the very foundation of the villa, made a fortune exploiting the African slaves. Admire the Manaca Iznaga Tower, tallest of the valley, which served to supervise the slave workforce. Continue to Sancti Spíritus, an old town with the only bridge from the colonial times still functioning in Cuba: the bridge over the Yayabo River. Lunch next to the engineering antique. Down the central road, head for Camagüey, the city of “tinajones” (large earthenware typical of this province). Hop on a “bicitaxi” for a tour of the city through its labyrinth-like streets, deliberately designed to lose pirates and privateers seeking to ransack the villa. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Hostal San Rafael or similar, Camagüey
The pride of a nation comes from its people’s glorious deeds. The tour continues to Bayamo, cradle of the Cuban nation, first city to be free of the Spanish colony and where the national anthem was sang for the first time. The tradition of horse-drawn carriages remains alive here, and you will not want to miss the opportunity to see the city on one of them. Leave for the Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Charity. The Patron Saint of Cuba has been the spiritual guide to millions of Cubans ever since the colonial era. Arrive in Santiago de Cuba, foundation of the Cuban Revolution, birthplace of Son, perfect mixture of cultures and religions: a mixed-race city. Enjoy the good music coming from every corner. End your day with a delicious dinner at your B&B. (B/D)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Hostal Heredia or similar, Santiago de Cuba
“Rebellious yesterday, hospitable today, heroic forever”. That is the motto of the second largest city of the island. The city tour begins right after breakfast. Behold the Moncada Barracks, former police station attacked by Fidel Castro in 1953 in an action that ignited the sparks of the Cuban Revolution. Visit the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, final resting place of the most illustrious Cuban patriots, including national hero José Martí, former president Fidel Castro and Mariana Grajales, mother of the Maceo generals. Buried here are also eminent members of the Bacardí dynasty, the ousted Cuban rum powerhouse. Continue to the center of the city to appreciate the iconic Céspedes Park and the Enramadas Street. In the afternoon, head southbound for San Pedro de la Roca Fort, an outstanding military engineering work in the Caribbean. Relish the spectacular view of the mountains and the sea. Rest of your day at leisure. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Hostal Heredia or similar, Santiago de Cuba
Today’s journey takes you through unique features of the Cuban geography. Past small towns, cultivated fields and all kinds of vendors along the roadside arrive in Guantánamo, home to the Tumba Francesa, a dance and music tradition brought to eastern Cuba by French settlers and their Haitian slaves, who fled the Haitian Revolution. It is here that the infamous US detention camp is. The Guantanamo Bay Naval Base1 occupies an usurped Cuban territory, which you will be able to see from afar, at the lookout point of La Gobernadora. As you proceed, observe the contrasts and changes in the scenery. Alongside a sea in deep shades of turquoise, you go from a dry, semi-desertic landscape with cactus as the main visible vegetation, to the moist, verdant rainforest in the mountains. Your destination is a tropical paradise that records the highest rainfall in Cuba. The last stretch of the road is La Farola viaduct, considered one of the seven wonders of Cuban engineering. The meandering path will introduce you to a breathtaking natural scenery…and some typical culinary delicacies, the “cucuruchos”. Do not miss the opportunity to taste these coconut and fruit sweets, which are served in conic containers of palm tree tissue. Once in Baracoa, in the afternoon, visit the Matachín Fort and the “plaza” of the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption of the Cross, which treasures the Cross of the Vine brought by Christopher Columbus. Check in at a casa particular and dinner. The local traditional cuisine, unique in Cuba, is based on products such as coconut, cocoa, plantain and seafood, which gives it a distinct Caribbean touch. (B/D)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Casa Isabel Castro or similar, Baracoa
2 For security reasons, it is not possible to get close to the US base. Only with excellent weather conditions it is possible to see the base from an elevated vantage point far away in the distance. It is recommended to bring binoculars.
In the midst of an exuberant nature, with plenty of rivers and coconut trees, the landscape of Baracoa is particularly marked by the flat-topped mountain of El Yunque. Explore this magnificent creation of Mother Nature in an excursion that includes navigating on cayucas, a type of rustic canoe typical of this region, across the mouth of Miel River. Along the way, you will be briefed on the local flora and fauna, and will have the chance to refresh in a little known cave. The sight of the Caribbean Sea and the wild vegetation dotted with coconut trees is to die for. Your lunch, elaborated with fresh products, bears the stamp of the region. You will have the chance to swim in the virgin beaches and enjoy the rest of your day at leisure. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: Casa particular, e.g. Casa Isabel Castro or similar, Baracoa
On your last day, travel along an uncrowded, bumpy seaside road around the Humboldt Park. Past exotic bays teeming with palm trees, you will get to Moa, a mine region with an important nickel industry. Continue to Holguin and proceed another 40 kilometers to arrive in the resort area of Guardalavaca. End of tour for clients opting for a beach extension. (Optional extra nights and airport transfer after extension not included). (B)
Note: Caribbean Tours recommends against arranging international flight connections on the same day that the tour ends. Arrival in time to the airport is not guaranteed in those cases and Caribbean Tours does not take responsibility for that. Instead, it is recommended to book an additional night in Holguín or a beach extension in one of the lovely all-inclusive hotels in Guardalavaca with the transfer back to the airport.

Immerse yourself in the everyday life of Cubans. Your day kicks off hopping on a bicitaxi that will take you to the Old Square in the historical center of the city. During this walk you will have the opportunity to learn a little about the history of Cuba through its vehicles presented in the Automobile Museum. Continue for a tour of four iconic squares of Old Havana. In the afternoon, after combing by foot the main attractions of the old town, get on what Cubans call a “cocotaxi”, a coconut-shaped vehicle that will take you to iconic sites like the Revolution Square and a not-so-well-known classic car repair shop. In the latter, you will be amazed by the ingenuity of the mechanics who keep those collectibles not just running, but in excellent shape thanks to home-made handcrafted spare parts. Your day will close in style with a tour on board of one of those beautiful cars to explore the modern part of Havana and its emblematic neighborhoods, including Vedado and Miramar, ending with a panoramic tour along the breezy Malecón. (B)
Accommodation and breakfast: e.g. San Lázaro 115 or similar, Havana
In the morning, head for Pinar del Río, the greenest of Cuba’s provinces and home to the best tobacco in the world. Stop at the lookout point Los Jazmines to appreciate the stunning Viñales Valley with its distinctive limestone outcrops called Mogotes. A traditional lunch awaits in a place full of nature, where you will also enjoy a cocktail session to learn the secrets behind the recipes of some of the most delicious Cuban cocktails. Back to Viñales, you will be able to admire one of the largest murals in the world, “El Mural de la Prehistoria”. Conceived by painter Leovigildo González, 21 local farmers helped in this monumental work that recreates life in Cuba in the times of the dinosaurs. After a short tour of the valley, rest of the afternoon at leisure. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: e.g. Villa Marilin or similar, Viñales
In Viñales, time seems to stand still. Nature, almost unspoiled, and the local fauna definitely contribute to the ideal portrait. Enjoy a morning walk by the lush greenery and cultivated fields. Chances are you will run across a farmer working the traditional way, with rustic tools and ox-drawn carts. You can look forward to a candid talk about his work and life experiences. After the trek, savour a delicious lunch, courtesy of Alberto Vitamina, a singular local farmer with a keen creole sense of humor. Alberto rose to notoriety selling fruits, his trademark being his loquaciousness with guests. After the re-energizing pause, rid yourself of any source of stress in our special adventure: the canopy tour2. With every stretch, enjoy the sensation of literary having the valley at your feet. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: e.g. Villa Marilin or similar, Viñales
2 Canopy is a unique experience that requires comfortable and non-slip footwear and we recommend to wear pants. A moderate level of fitness
is an advantage, as some steps and small hills have to be climbed between the various platforms.
Depart in the morning for Cienfuegos, only city in Cuba founded by the French. On your way there, stop at the ruins of the Angerona coffee plantation, an estate owned by the German immigrant Cornelio Souchay back in the 19th century. Vestiges of the property that have withstood the passing of time include parts of the manor house, the walls of the slaves’ quarters and the reservoirs used to water the coffee cultivation. The place is wrapped with a mystic atmosphere of legends and stories about slavery and love. Shortly after, visit an agro-ecological paradise, a finca where local food production is transformed into culinary delicacies in the hands of an experienced chef. After lunch and a approx. 300 km haul, arrive to the charming maritime city of Cienfuegos, the Pearl of the South. Benny Moré, the most celebrated Cuban “sonero”, is among the many national idols born here. Do not miss the opportunity to snap a photo alongside his bronze statue in the Prado Promenade. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: e.g. Casa Maikel or similar, Cienfuegos
Cienfuegos City attracts and delights its visitors due to its colonial charm and the distinctive sea breeze of a cosmopolitan city surrounded by water. In every column or street, you can feel the splendorous ambience of a growing city since the beginning of the XIX Century. The journey today it is designed to combine the beautiful nature of Cienfuegos’s surroundings with its splendid architecture. Start the day by visiting Guanaroca lagoon, a natural sanctuary that holds a colony of the gorgeous pink flamingos and some other aquatic birds. In the afternoon, back in town, you will visit José Martí square, and the astonishment theatre Tomas Terry just crossing the street. There are lots of interesting stories about the theatre including Caruso´s performance in 1920. Right at the end of the afternoon you will have a delicious cocktail with a wonderful view from the terrace of the majestic Valle Palace, which is located at the south point of the city and afterwards could enjoy a tasty dinner at your private accommodation. (B/D)
Accommodation with breakfast: e.g. Casa Maikel or similar, Cienfuegos
Leave in the morning for Trinidad, one of the wealthiest villas of the 19th century, where the unique colonial architecture remains essentially untouched to this day. A tour through the old cobblestone streets of the city will suffice to understand why it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walk by the Plaza Mayor, surrounded by magnificent ancient mansions. One of them is the Brunet Palace, nowadays the Romantic Museum, where you will be able to appreciate a collection of pieces that belonged to the sugar estate owners back in the 19th century. To crown a day of traditions, learn about the Trinitarian pottery-making heritage in “La Casa del Alfarero”. In the evening, after tasting the local cuisine at an authentic paladar you will have the opportunity to dance to the rhythm of the Cuban music at Casa de la Trova. (B/D)
Accommodation with breakfast: e.g. Osmary y Alberto or similar, Trinidad
Today is all about the Caribbean Sea. Leave the fishing village of Casilda on a catamaran. Sail in the Caribbean Sea and see the southern Trinitarian shore slowly draw away until you arrive in Cayo Iguana. There will be a stop so you can jump into the crystal clear water and enjoy some time for snorkelling. Both, on the boat and at Cayo Iguana you will have the opportunity to sunbathe and relax while listening to the Cuban rhythms. A typical creole style lunch with seafood specialties will be offered on the island before returning to Trinidad in the afternoon with the feeling of having revived Robinson Crusoe’s deeds. (B/L)
Accommodation with breakfast: e.g. Osmary y Alberto or similar, Trinidad
Traveling through the Sugar Mills Valley, where the iconic Iznaga Tower stands, you will head for Santa Clara. This city witnessed the most important victory of the iconic guerrilla fighter Ernesto “Che” Guevara. To learn about this clash, visit the place from the outside where his troops derailed an armoured train4 in an action that effectively determined the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. Continue for a refreshing drink at a local bar, surrounded by a pleasant atmosphere. Visit the “Che” Guevera Memorial5, the final resting place of the epoch-making revolutionary. En route to Havana, stop in Varadero to drop off clients opting for a beach extension (not included). (B)
Note: When participating in a group tour, a timely connection to an international return flight on the last day of the round trip cannot be guaranteed and is therefore not recommended on the same day. Arrival in time to the airport is not guaranteed in those cases and Caribbean Tours does not take responsibility for that. Instead, it is recommended to book a beach stay in Varadero or an extra night in Havana as an extension to your vacation. In case you nevertheless fly back on the same day, we advise you to book a private direct transfer from Trinidad to the airport separately to ensure punctual arrival at the international airport.
3 Route via Santa Clara with stopover in Varadero to Havana 535 km, without stopover in Varadero only 315 km.
4 The open-air museum "Tren Blindado" is closed on Sundays, but can still be visited from the outside.
5 The “Che” Guevara Memorial officially closes on Mondays but, occasionally; it can close any other day without notice. Caribbean Tours does not take responsibility for those changes. However, even from the outside, the visit to the monument, with its impressive image of “Che”, is recommended.

Mingle with locals and play Domino like Cubans do!
Visitors often say that Cubans stand out in a crowd by the way the talk, their gestures, their smiles, but if you want to see Cubanness at its best, then playing dominoes is the best way to experience it.
For many a game, for Cubans a passion; winning consistently gains you the status of local or even national “hero”; the person everybody wants to partner with.
One of the best ways to experiencing genuine local life is engaging in a street domino championship or enjoying a more relaxed domino game in the evening at a Cuban’s home in the countryside, rum and cigar in hand.

An agricultural revolution
One day, Fernando Funes Monzote decided to leave the comfort of Vedado residencial area to settle on the outskirts of Havana, and changed his status as a agriculture scientist to become a farmer.
Not many believed that the efforts of this city man for digging a well in a baldly eroded hillside with such a rocky soil would pay off; after months of hard work Mr. Funes started to have a clearer view of what used to be his vision and now he is the proud owner of Martha farm.
Named after his late mother, the finca grows more than 60 varieties of vegetables, fruits and herbs and high quality honey is produced, supplying organic goods to many of Havana’s top-rated private restaurants.
Funes´inspirational story has even travelled across the borders and have reach to royalty´s ears; Prince Charles himself visited the farm to learn about Funes’ radical vision on Cuban agriculture and the inspiration behind his colossal effort.

American vintage cars, a true piece of Cuban culture
In Cuba, American vintage cars have lost their nationality to become Cuban almost by nature. They are not mere means of transportation or decorative elements on a postcard.
A memento from the past, Cubans have poured their souls into keeping them running and a clear example of that is the private business ran by Nidialys and Julio, whose work and passion has been an outstanding contribution to dignify a true piece of Cuban culture.
Hop on a dazzling Chevrolet 1957 for a ride with lots of swagger. Visit NostalgiCar, a private business that has brought to its past splendor more than one almendrón.

Nazdarovie! … I mean Salud!... I mean, Cheers!
After visiting Cuba, many agree that they had the feeling of being in a place where time had stopped. While some think of history as the past; in Cuba nothing speaks more about history than the present itself. Spanish colony, capitalist US neo-colony, radical socialist heavily influenced by the former USSR; the mementos related to all that can be found anywhere in the island and the soviet footprint is still fresh.
Visit private restaurant Nazdarovie, which boast an impressive collection of objects about the soviet culture and footprint in Cuba. Meet the owner, a North American businessman of Soviet descent that settled in Cuba just after the Berlin wall fell off.
Support private business with a powerfully evocative theme for Cubans.

Pinar del Río is like the Cuban Hollywood of tobacco and the Oscars are to movies what Hombre Habano is to the world of hand-rolled cigars, so owning one of the top tobacco farms in Cuba and being the youngest man in the industry with the Hombre Habano distinction are reasons enough to pay a visit to Héctor Luis.
He will walk you through Quemado del Rubí farm explaining the entire process of production of the best tobacco in the world.
