Miches, a small town located in the El Seibo province on the northeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, is undergoing a remarkable transformation. Once known primarily as a fishing and agricultural community, Miches is now emerging as one of the country’s most promising luxury tourism destinations, with a strong focus on sustainability and environmental preservation.
At the heart of this transformation is Tropicalia, an ambitious tourism development project spearheaded by the Cisneros Group. One of its flagship initiatives is a luxury hotel operated by Four Seasons, representing an investment of over $200 million. Set to open in early 2026, the property will feature 95 guest rooms and 25 private residences, designed to harmonize with the region’s natural surroundings.
But Tropicalia is not alone in driving the area’s growth. Miches is also home to Club Med Playa Esmeralda, which opened in 2019 and offers 335 rooms in a family-friendly, all-inclusive setting. The region’s expansion continues with the addition of two major resorts by AMResorts: Secrets Playa Esmeralda and Dreams Playa Esmeralda, which together will bring nearly 1,500 new rooms to the area.
